Tarot cards can be somewhat intimidating to many ordinary people unaccustomed to the mysterious worlds of divination (palm-reading, rune casting, astrology etc.) but in fact they are a very useful tool for personal introspection. While they can supposedly be used to make predictions about yourself and others, I think they are best used to explore issues in your life and open up new ways of thinking about problems. *Content* As with all tarot decks, this one contains 22 major arcana cards with pictures of figures as follows: 0. The Fool, 1. The Magician, 2. The High Priestess, 3. The Empress, 4. The Emporer, 5. The Hierophant, 6. The Lovers, 7. ... Read the complete review

If you are fairly new to Tarot reading you will find the Rider Waite pack the easiest to read. The images are bright and pleasing and they don't have the sometimes alarming images found on some other Tarot packs. This makes them less intimidating than some packs. Tarot as we know it today is rooted in the early Renaissance period of history. The earliest surviving deck are Italian and were made for the Visconti family in Milan around 1450. These are som, etimes called the Bembo deck. Most of the older decks are Italian or French; the Marseilles deck is probably the best known. Today's cards have changed over the centuries. People have requested a little more basic info so here we go. The tarot is a 78 card deck consisting of 22 Major Arcana cards each of which has an archetypal image and name such as The Fool, The Empress and The Sun. The remaining cards form the minor arcana and are split into 4 suits of pentacles (earth), cups (water), wands (fire) and swords (air), the prototypes of the common playing card suits. They are numbered like regular playing cards but with 4 court/face cards instead of three; Page (or Princess), Knight, Queen and King. These cards are also illustrated with drawings representative of their meaning although in other decks they may not be. The minor arcana often ... Read the complete review

I borrowed a pack of these tarot cards from a friend. The pictures are nice and they are yellow, red and blue so they are quite cheerful. I enjoyed looking at them as pieces of art and I can appreciate the symbolism. There are 78 cards in the pack. 22 are what are called major arcana cards and supposedly have stronger meanings than the others. The other 56 are divided into suits: wands (like batons of wood), pentacles (like a pentagram but also called coins, Cups which are like hearts in conventional cards and Swords which are like diamonds in ordinary playing cards. These cards are laid out in a pattern that is supposed to give you information. These ... Read the complete review
