Good, But Could Be A Lot Better

I have been using this product for a number of months now, mainly as I have to transfer files between a PC and a Compact Flash card. Over the time using it I have made a number of observations, both good and bad as a result of using it.

I bought it for £19.99 from the high street and that appeared to be the average price. I think though you're paying largely for the brand name as comparable products are available have not only more slots and compatibility, but are a cheaper price.

Moving on though, if we look at what the product does, it does it extremely well. I've found that sending files back and fore it done at a very fast speed, and is certainly the fastest card reader i've purchased to date. It also has the transfer light on the front, which lets you know when its accessing the card. This is handy for two reasons; firstly, it lets you know it's actually doing something rather than having you just sit there wondering if Windows is making up its mind and secondly it's vitally important incase you pull the card out in the middle of a transfer and damage the card in the process.

It's also plug and play and is instantly recognisable by Windows. I've got several computers that I use to connect this too and not one has had an issue recognising it and the drives appear in the My Computer section of windows and treats it like a normal external drives. In a nutshell, it has no compatibility issues whatsoever.

It also comes with a USB cable which is long in length. If you need this to have to put it neatly positioned somewhere then this allows this to sit neatly away from the device that it's connected to.

I do have some issues with it though, mainly being size. considering that it only reads two types of media, Smart Media and Compact Flash, you'd expect it to be smaller in size. Plus although another advantage is that it's very lightweight, you are mainly carrying air.

This brings me onto another point which is whilst it aesthetically pleasing and looks nice, i'd rather forsake that for something smaller in size. And again this product, as good at it is for doing the job, it wants to look nice at the same time and i'd just rather have something that looks less nice to the eye and just do the job well because if you've bought this, changes are you're looking for something portable and easy to carry.

Finally, taking the size and price into account, you'd expect it to be more compatible with more types of media such as SD, or MMC etc. I'd suggest if you're only going to use these two types of media and not fussed about the size then by all means get this because it's fast and does its job well. But, for the same price, or perhaps even cheaper, you can get something which is more lightweight, has more compatibility and will work just as well. Good, but could be so much more in that empty casing.
