Easier than hooking up your camera!

The Belkin Compact Flash Card Reader is a great product for those who use the compact flash data storage system. Compact flash cards are found in handheld pc and digital cameras. They are used to store data such as files or pictures. Once these are full or if the data needs to be moved to a pc this is where the Belkin Compact Flash Card Reader comes in. The Card Reader reads the information stored on the compact flash card and transfers it quickly to a folder on your pc.

Most Products that use compact flash come with a transfer cable anyway to use with your pc so you may think why do I need one? The reason why card readers are needed is because they are quicker and more reliable than just transferring directly from your device. The reason for this is the Device is usually operated via batteries and it requires a lot of power to transfer data than it normally would to use the device in the first instance. Due to this if your batteries are not fully charged you will encounter a problem with transferring the data. If your batteries are fully charged and you transfer the data you will find they will need recharging afterwards.

The Belkin Card Reader is a plug and play product which works with Window OS 98 and above. It links directly to your pc via USB connection. The Card Reader sits happily on your desk it could do with a sticky pad underneath it to stick it in place but as it doesn’t you will need to use a blob of blue tack. The cable only stretches 1 metre in length so it’s quite short. It’s grey in colour with the insertion slot being orange. The Card Reader is supplied with a CD-rom containing the drivers and a manual.

The Card Reader is easy to use the compact flash card just plugs directly into the top of the card reader a window pops up asking you where you would like the data to be transferred to select the folder. It takes less than 1 sec per 1mb of data to transfer. Once the transfer is complete just remove the card and that’s it. You can transfer the data from the card and also to the card.

The Card Reader retails at £19.99 from all computer or photography shops. If you plan on purchasing one of these a tip is to look for a gold sticker on the packet, which states ‘free software’. The free software is included in the packet and contains 2 programs to manipulate photographs by Ulead and a superb program able to stitch pictures together, which allows you to have panoramic, or 360-degree pictures.
