This is not a small card reader, it's not huge but it's much more chunky than it needs to be. You remove one end to plug it into the machine, it's a standard design method and the little metal ring stops you from losing the piece you removed, however it's not elegant. The remaining parts flip open allowing the memory cards then slide into the reader. They then have little clear tabs that help you eject your card.
It does provide good protection for your card and a great storage space to use for travel. it takes a variety of media and doesn't take too long to load, though it's not very fast. You aren't going to lose it or find you can't get anything in the holes because of residule dirt... however
Sadly, I had mine for about a month before it ceased to work. The mechanics seemed awkward and it refused to work with one of my cards. The little tabs for ejecting the cards are novel and lovely but didn't make up for the flaws.
The alternative's are mostly USB sticks with holes in them, and that's what i replaced mine with. yes the dust can get into the holes but you can access them to clean, unlike this model.
If it's on offer i may try it again but with a plethora of models at similar prices i doubt i'll take this path another time.
The Kingston MobileLite 9-in-1 Card Reader is the only device you need to store, transfer and read data on any USB enabled device. As I use a variety of flash cards for mobile phone, digital camera and camcorder.
This card reader is designed with a USB 2.0 connector which is ideal to connect via you PC or laptop. It has memory expansion slots that support nine different types of SD and MMC flash memory cards. It also comes with a 1 GB SD memory card for free, what more would you want.
This device is called mobile for a reason, as its small and compact it's ideal to take with you anywhere. You won't find a smaller more compact card reader on the market which carries a respectable name as Kingston. I have another card reader which I use for my PC, I bought this because it was cheap and had free 1GB SD memory card with it. I use this card reader with my laptop.
Main features and functions:
- Small compact design
- The slot on side A supports SD/SDHC, MMC, MMCmobile, RS MMC, and MMCplus card formats
- The slots on side B support microSD, MMCmicro, and miniSD card formats
- Small key ring
- 1GB SD memory card
- 5.8 x 3.8 x 0.6 inches
- 2 year warranty
Overall the Kingston MobileLite 9-in-1 Card Reader is a very useful device if you have a variety of other devices which use media cards for storage. When in use the MobileLite shows as three drive letters G:, H:, I: and transferring data is simply drag and drop. I bought this from Ebay and got it very cheap for £5, it retails at around £20. This was a bargain as you can't even get a 1GB SD card for that price. Overall a decent and useful device.
