Ford Focus 1.8 LX TDdi 5dr ... was a fortunate winner when Top Gear magazine ran a competition in which the prize was to test a Ford Focus at the motor industry test facility at Crowthorne. At this test facility it is possible to conduct a huge range of tests. Road surfaces are deliberately made slippy by use of rounded beads in the surface and water sprayed on top. The result helps a driver assess in a safe environment the road-holding limits of a vehicle. Further tests can be done on braking performance and the effectiveness of ABS systems. Ford Ka in general ... bought my 2003 Ka nearly 18 months ago and have been very happy with it. I d previously had an L reg Fiesta, but wanted something that was going to last me and not need so many repairs. The Ka appealed to me due to being small and easy to park (you know what us women are like at parking!). The price was also a bonus. The car handles well and it pretty nippy. It s comfortable and feels pretty roomy despite its small size. My only problem with it is the lack of storage space, the glove box is literaly only big enough to hold a pair of gloves! Ford Fiesta (1999 onwards) in general ... had my beautiful 2002 Ford Fiesta Finesse as my first car and it really did serve me well. It lasted me 4 years then I traded her in for a Golf but I do occasionally drive my mums Fiesta so I can reminisce about how much fun she was to drive. Don t get me wrong, there is no way I would ever trade n my Golf to get the Fiesta back again but I think that, as a first car, you really cant go wrong with it. Mine was a 3 door 1250 CC and that was enough for me at the time. Sure it had trouble getting up hills and the back was pretty cramped but I still loved it.
