Land Rover Discovery ... Now, as we had driven to one paticular point, there were many other people there, with a range of different 4 x 4s ranging from a Nissan Patrol and a Jeep Wrangler, to a Ford Explorer and Mitsibushi Pajero. Now when these ca rs proceeded to go down the side of the mountain, they experienced no problems. In the Land Rover Discovery, we nearlly died. I am not exaggerating. The braking system is appaling, which is essential for travelling up and down steep gradients. The driver had applied the breaks, and almost had no effect. The traction on the wheels were appaling! Land Rover Freelander in general ... Freelander is not a Honda, it is not a Mitsubishi or a Hyundai or a Mercedes. It is an excellent off roader, a genuine town and country estate, and not a shopping trolley or glorified handbag. Unlike it's MPV cousins, the Freelander has HDC (Hill Descent Control) which enables you to eliminate overrun when going down steep slopes. Excellent for when towing. It also has full traction control, virtually eliminating slip in snow, ice and mud. On top of everything else, it has extremely well damped steering, so that the wheel doesn't spin in your hands when you hit a pot hole.
