Mercedes-Benz A160 Elegance ... bought this car 2 years ago,as an ex-demo car from MB UK. However, during my first year of ownership (2001) the car had to go back to the garage for a faulty alternator(fixed under warranty).Further problems appeared last year (2002) with fuel smell when driving with an open sun-roof.Despite 3 visits to the dealer nothig was found.More problems since then,when the car was declared 'unroadworthy' by virtue of failing its first MOT after 3 years due to excess play of wheels.I discovered that this is a well known problem to MB,that's probably why they contribute 50% of the not insubstantial repair costs,which still leaves a bill of £200 + to be paid to have ht... Mercedes-Benz A170CDI Elegance ... isn't the first new car I've owned, I've had Peugeot, Fiat and Ford, and thought the MB marque would be a step up ..... how wrong I was . Started off on the first day of delivery with the alarm setting off constantly, and the dealer refusing to come and fix it ... sundery small items broke on the car (eletric windows, intereoir trim) pluscritical items (anti roll bar , rear BRAKE CALIPERS ), MB uk wont help and local dealers attitude is little more than "of course things break on your car, that keeps us in business (thier words not mine) " depreciated like falling off a cliff, and air bags failed to deploy in an accident ! currently suing deal... Mercedes-Benz A140 Classic ... got rid of the Range Rover I have gone for something that is better suited to my needs and went out and bought a secondhand Merc A Class 140 Classic with the clutchless gear setup. Alot has been written about these cars on these pages and I can say that the car is everything that has been said before, the one I have is the smallest of the engines sizes but for its weight and size it is quite nippy, the ride is certainly different to the Range Rover and feels much more connected to the road, firm seems to be everyones adjective.
