Mercedes-Benz A170CDI Elegance ... we bought the first A-Class (a petrol A140 Elegance) almost 3 years ago, I suppose it was a bit of a statement! Having progressed from Ibizas, Fiestas and Polos, the 'Baby Benz' was a radical change and totally different. We were also willing to give the car the benefit of the doubt on certain shortfalls, though Mercedes Benz (MB) should have got them right initially. Well as we all know they didn't and what a disaster. For all the pros of the vehicle, one con outweighed them all - the ride - you felt all the bumps and were glad to get out of the car. Mercedes-Benz SLK 200K ... the skin the SLK is a very impressive car but from the first opinions it does not look that nice. When I had my Lotus Elise people would look at your car where ever you drove, but with the SLK it still looks like all the other mercs. I give it a lot of credit as it is the first car to ever have an electric hard top later followed by the new Peugeot 206 convertible and Lexus. As with all convertibles you still get wind noise but as the SLK has a hard top the noise is minimal and in the cold winters of Britain soft tops can get really cold, but not with this car. Mercedes-Benz A140 Avantgarde ... Having driven the A140 now for 4 weeks every day, I can now add a few extra comments on drivablity. If your after a sports car, then this car definately isnt for you, but if your after an everday, commuter or kids to school car then this is a definate car to look at. Although it might look small on the outside, it will take 5 Adults in relative comfort and will still give good MPG and behave well on the motorway. 70mph @ 3,000rpm, not bad for a 1.4. It doesnt sound like its screaming either. The handling is pretty good for a car of its height and I dont know where the stories of instability originate from but they are truly unfounded.
