Skoda Fabia Comfort 1.4 16v 5dr ... thought I d report on my time with a 2004 Skoda Fabia 1.4 16v Comfort automatic recently. I had the car for just over a week and in that time travelled over 750 miles. Let me firstly say that the jokes about Skoda are now well and truly over. They began to die out around 15 years ago when the Favorit was released - here was a modern(ish) front-wheel drive hatchback from the purveyors of the funny air-cooled cars with the engine in the back. While that first Favorit lacked a bit of polish (it was plagued with typical Eastern-European fit and finish), Skoda attracted the attention of VW who injected large amounts of cash. Skoda Superb 1.9 PD TDI 130 ... years ago, if you had told me that I would now be driving a diesel I would have laughed. Moreover, if you had added that it would be a diesel Skoda I would probably have stopped laughing and thrown myself over the nearest cliff. However, by some strange quirk of fate I have become the proud (yes proud) owner of a diesel Skoda Superb. The Superb is Skoda's luxury car offering and is named after the original Skoda Superb limousine of 1938. Unlike Skodas of the 1970's and 80's this was an extremely luxurious car indeed. We knew we needed a family car with plenty of boot space; a car that would tolerate the stop start driving you experience within towns but also manage long distance trips to Scotland without breaking the bank in fuel costs.
