TVR Cerbera
by earthy The 4.5 v8 is a god send, plenty of power, plenty of noise and a quality feel to it. I'm on my second cerbera now (the first was the 4.2) I?ve driven lots of sports coupe's but the Blackpool rocket has to be the best value for money. You can get one second hand for the same price as a mondeo estate. New they are a maximum of ... £58,000.I would strongly recommend anyone to buy a cerbera if they have owned or driven, for a long period of time, a very powerful sports car, this car is not for novices as a heavy right foot is likely to lead to a change of trousers. Excellent car can't be praised enough for my liking. The wooga wooga burble you get at the traffic lights is fantastic and when you drive through tunnels the echo feed back is totally addictive. I must admit I'm not normal I own a performance car parts showroom and i couldn't help myself and have added a straight through exhaust (manifold to exit pipe) just to add a little more flavour to the drive but now it is a little too tail-end happy so i wouldn't recommend anyone else doing it. sorry about the over emotional view of the cerbera but thats what happens when you're 23 and own such a car, but for everyone that hasn't driven one here's a little more about the car. front mounted 4.5 litre in line engine linkled to a limited slip rear differential and rear wheel drive six speed american manual gearbox (the same base unit as the dodge viper and aston martin v8 vantage) top speed in excess of 180mph 0-62 in..... well you get the idea it's too damn fast for English roads. the achilles heal for this car has to be it's reliabilty, if you're not a mechanic with the appropriate tools you're gonna spend a lot of money getting this car fixed because when things go wrong with this car it's gonna be expensive, even services are at best steep starting at £500 for a basic service and check-up. the interior in the cerbera is as you would expect in a british sports car, lots of dead cows in almost any colour you want. the carpets are a nightmare to hoover because they are very thick pile but that just adds to the entire feel of the car, the gear change is short and firm, not stiff just solid. the one thing i don't like about this car (yes there is something i don't like about it ) is the placement of the handbrake lever, its right over in the passengers lap! daft but nevermind. if there's anything else you want to know about my car please leave me a message. TVR Chimaera
by Bluechim450 Where do I start ?? Been looking for a TVR for about 9 months, searching t'internet, M.O.D., Autotrader et al and managed to find the perfect car (touch wood) 8 miles away. My Blue Chimaera 450 is a 99 model, 1 owner can with full TVR history. It has the Griffith 500 alloys, PAS, leven switches and knobs and the very rare, ... factory Air Con. I read all the reports about build quality and reliability before buying, but didn't let that put me off. I have been driving the car daily since January (the test drive was fun in the snow), and have had no problems what-so-ever. On my car, the only problem is between the windows and the centre roof panel. The gap is large enough for rain to enter when the roof is on in exactly the right place, when slightly off, the gap can be 5 mm. This is due to be fixed shortly with some after market rubber seals which are cut to size. Otherwise, everything seems to be ok. There is nothing better than dropping a gear in a tunnel or built up area and listening to the noise of the V8 burble and watching the heads turn. I still can't stop grinning when finding a flowing bend, or long straight when I can just press on the accelerator and watch the surroundings disapear into the distance. And here lies the secret to Chim and TVR ownership. Don't be agressive, be smooth and steady. There is no need to just drop the clutch at every set of traffic lights, to try and get the back end out on every roundabout. Being smooth and steady is not boring, but very rewarding when you get it right. I cannot remember cornering at such high speeds, or accelerating so quickly, and my right foot hardly ever reaches the floor. Anyone thinking of buying a Chim, or any sports car should go into it with their eyes open. Servicing needs to be done by the dealer, or a specialist only. This means higher costs, but greater piece of mind and resale value. The benefits far outway the drawbacks............ In my opin ion, TVR ownership should be a must for everyone. It should be written into the constitution..........there is nothing better, and I look forward to my continued bliss. Read the complete review |

TVR Tuscan
by Jead First thing that hit me when I saw the tuscan is how small it looked. Then the next thing was the price followed by the Side window as I tried to look closer at the interior. ( I left a grease mark but no one noticed.) I went to the mole vally showroom as a potential buyer but I knew full well that I wouldn't have enough money to ... even buy a 1:12 scale version. but that didn't stop me from looking. I eventually managed to muster up the courage to talk to one of the staff about the car hinting I wanted a test drive ie. "so how does it handle" Oooo I bet its fast" ect finally I was offered a passenger test drive where by I get taken around in the car which is nearly as good as the real thing. I have never been anything faster than a pegeout 106 1.0 and with my excessive weight hindering the full potential of the 106 i have never really felt the acceleration I had felt from the Tuscan that literally glued me to the seat. For those who have never been from 0-60 in 4 secs well Lie down on the floor with your legs in a seated position and suprizingly this is very similar. I would tell you about the test drive on the public roads but if the law should read this then the entire garage would be shut down. but we definitely got some looks and some cheers from the fellow drivers who tried to keep up with us. You do feel good in a car like this, but you do need a lot of training before you can handle one like it. Lose concentration for one minute and the rear wheels will be looking for the side of the road like a dog in new teritory. The interior is well and trully amazing . It is furturistic and retro at the same time. The dials are neatly built into the stearing wheel and nearly all the swithes are made of some alloy which twist to operate the many functions of the car. The boot is huge large enough to put a full size suitcase and a smaller one. or if you are a family person one teenager, two juniors, a 5 year old cocker spaniel. and 14 hed gehogs. I haven't actually put this to the test but this is my general judgement. Read the complete review |
