Vauxhall Astra LS 1.4i 16v 5-door Hatchback
by rogdragon
If you're looking for a family size car that is reasonably cheap on petrol then this car is good for you. I owned this model for 5 years and it was always reliable and it never broke down. Servicing the vehicle was also good due to the parts being cheaper than some other manufacturers. The only complaint I had was with the hand brake as ... during extremely cold weather (-10C) it seemed to freeze slightly and was stiff to take off first thing on start up. The model prefers hot weather and with AC it was very comfortable driving around the continent, again with a smaller engine size petrol seemed to go that bit further. Cruising at 70 or 80 mph was fine and comfortable on faster roads and the tyres are quite wide for secure handling but you will notice the lack of power when trying to over take. The car is roomy and the boot is sufficient for most family needs, especially when the back seat can split. The CD entertainment system was good with quadraphonic speakers and EQ I enjoyed some good listening. Read the complete review |

Vauxhall Corsa SXi 1.2i 16v 3-door
by indifferent
The vauxhall corsa sxi 1.2 16v
synonymous with tack body kits and tinted windows this little car has alot to offer for the price you can pick it up for these days.
The Looks:
This car has a slightly sporty look to it and should come with a neat little spoiler and alloy wheels, many of the chavs purchase it opt to lower the ... car by about 40 or 60 mil, which gives it an even sportier stance.
Reliability:
Mechanicly this car isnt bad for a vauxhall, try and find one with less than 90K miles and you should be fine if its just a first car which you wont keep for more than two years. Although the engine is pretty sound there are many common faults with the internal components, if your lucky you wont encouter more than one and there usually not too costly to repair, just a tad annoying, examples are; central locking, steering column, ignition etc.
Economy:
MPG
46 mpg
Insurance Group
7
Euro Emissions Standard
4
CO2 Emissions
146 g/km
At 46 mpg this car is pretty cheap to run, keep the revs down and you'll be supposed how efficient it can be.
Performance:
Thanks to the 16 valves this car really moves for a 1.2 litre engine its stable round the bends too so can be great fun for a 1st time driver without being to powerful.
Overall:
id say that 1st car or not this is a great buy, its sporty and popular and cheap to buy insure and run. This car is on its way out but give it one last hurrah because its still one of the best. Read the complete review |

Vauxhall Corsa Comfort 1.0i 12v 3-door
by WillJoelTaylor
Had problems with my old 1995 Corsa not starting in the winter, went to my local car garage and part exchanged for a 54 Plate Corsa with some money put towards obviously :) the car was in great condition, only one previous owner and only 45,000 miles on the clock. As soon as I sat in it I wanted it. Driving it is so easy to do, the power ... steering is so easy and the clutch is not hard to push like a clio. I do have some bad points however, although in my opinion I love the car it has cost my a lot of money since buying it 6 months ago. The purchase price of the car minus the part exchange was £2,750 which was fine, my mum bought it using a loan and every month I pay her back. Just outside of the 3 month warranty with the garage it developed a ticking noise which turned out that the timing chain needed to be replaced soon otherwise the it would snap and write the engine off, the starter motor started playing up, oxygen sensors cut out, spark plugs needed replacing, thermostat failed and gasket needed changing. Needless to say I couldn't drive it, all in all that work cost £676.00 to complete which was all of my savings.
Half of me regrets buying this car because of the huge amount of faults that came about after 3 months and the huge bill I paid but the other half of me loves driving this car and am happy with it once I get the money out of my mind. Read the complete review |
