Advantages: Good, imaginative styling, Postitive, precise steering, Good engine noise
Disadvantages: Poor inter-dealer communication, Computer and associated faults, Quality of upholstery
-Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful motorcars in its league with an apparently solid build. However I experienced so much utter frustration with my first example (bought in February 2002 at 5 months old with a low mileage). The accumulated time that it spent off the road having mechanics attend the various 'motor control system failures' (throttle potentiometer), interior rattles, immobiliser problems, fog light problems, ASR and ABS problems, weird air con smell problems, rear wiper problems, boot catch problems etc. etc. etc. etc. - ran into weeks. Fortunately the dealer eventually provided me with an ex-demonstrator replacement car (at slight extra cost to myself) which I sincerely hope means trouble-free motoring. I would advise to only buy new. However if a used example attracts your attention - in addition to my second paragraph - make sure you carefully check the paintwork, especially around the front, as chips manifest without due reason, mainly in the darker colours. Also basic cloth seats (as opposed to sports cloth) wears quickly. Also note that some examples are ex-rental, and, being Alfa Romeos, are more likely to have been thrashed. One further warning: Alfa Romeo's customer service infrastructure is based in Milan. This unfortunately means inevitably difficult conversations based around their long, erratically placed lunchtimes.

- 20/09/04 i totally have had the same problems with my 147 TS LUSSO, i love the car but generally spend all my days off back at the dealership, having problems & electrical failiures investigated.
i bought the car brand new in march 04 and it has since had stuck electric windows for most of the months i have had it, its had paintwork problems, had to have 2 new alloy wheels, vdc failure until having to have a new computer!! i'm told#was a danger all the while i was driving round in it# the brakes could have failed at any time, the air con has a mind of its own and is sometimes smelly?! petrol cap is wicked when your in a rush it plays games with your mind, newly developed a rather annoying flashing tripometer... i'm booked in back at the dealers on friday,.. i've missed what little summer we have had sat in their showroom. i don't blame my car because i love it despite all its problems, i blame the dodgy garage i bought it from, read my review on independant garages- not the automotive solution!!

- 14/02/03 In addition to my review, 'Vanity over Sanity', I would like to share my delight with readers in discovering a truly fantastic Alfa Romeo dealer:
DBS Desira, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk.
(NB. Do not confuse them with Desira in any other part of the country - that is run by a different brother, and is in my experience not comporable). |

- 15/11/02 Lovely cars, poorly developed, and crap dealers. i thought that Arnold Clark in Edinburgh were 'the pits'. Seems they have a rival!
Best of luck and Please keep updated. |
