I've had my 1999 A3 for 18 months now and driven around 20000 miles in it, mostly too and from work on town roads and a stretch of motorway. I don't have a strongly good or bad opinion about the car. It's a smooth drive, great power steering, effortless clutch, very little road noise and fantastic build quality. The handling is adequate, but you will suffer the consequences if you throw it around too much. Bad points are the increase in engine noise at motorway speeds and the relatively feeble engine. It's nippy enough but you're not gong to out-accelerate anything. And you can't get much in the boot. And the stereo is rubbish. Oh, and they're not that cheap either.
