Advantages: The grip, acceleration, superb road cornering

Disadvantages: too much grip in certain situations, Accidents usually mean a write off.

Since I was very small I yearned after the rally winning Audi quattro's and always vowed that my first car would be an Audi and if I had the money It would be a quattro. Well I passed my test as soon as I could and I started looking for my dream car.

My first was an Audi Coupe quattro with a 2.2 5i engine. This car stuck to the road like nothing I had ever driven before, it was quite literally on rails.
This car helped me through my learning years and always got me out of more trouble than I could get it into. One particular example was when a lovely lady in a long Volvo pulled out in front of me on a fast roundabout, with the legendary quattro system the car turned a perfect 90 degree turn on the spot and drove in paralel around the roundabout with the Volvo all at high speed.

Since then I have owned 2 more quattro's both being 80's, the first a sluggish 2.0 8 valve which didn't really have the power to experience the full fun of the quattro system. The second and current car is the 2.6 V6 version. This car is awesome it handles better than a hot hatch and cruises as well as the other german marques.

The best thing about this 4WD system is it's reliability and lack of electronic gadgetry, later systems come with a torsion dif which can give varrying amounts of power to either front or rear depending on grip situations. Even more impressive is the dif lock function which although comes on most 4WD's has never impressed me as much as it does in the Audi. I have used this later car to pull cars out of snow drifts and ditches in freezing blizzard conditions with absolutely no problems and wheel spin what so ever.

My only problem is that because it has so much grip you find yourselves compensating for your over compensations in adverse conditions, if you catch my drift or probably lack of it.
Another point to make about the quattros is there gearing, they all have incredibly short fir
st a second gears too move all the difs etc. Once you get to grips with this you will start taking on even motor bikes at traffic lights.

All the cars I have owned have been very cheap to service and the parts are believe it or not cheaper than some ford parts. I noticed that on one review for the Audi 80 someone mentioned buying parts from german swedish and french. From personal experience I would advise NEVER buying from that company, buying direct from an Audi dealer has proven to be cheaper for some parts and G S & F have recently been caught selling fake parts in OEM boxes.
