      Audi's Beautiful Beast

Having owned an Audi R8 for about 8months now I can honestly say it is the most potent, mind bending driving experience I have had. The handling is perfect to a T and acceleration is smooth and constant all the way to the best part of 190mph.

So where did a car like this come from I hear you ask. Well the genes of the R8 came originally from Audi Le Mans Quattro Concept Car and these were very good genes as this model won it five times between 2000 and 2005.

The R8 combines groundbreaking, motorsport experience, technology and design and this can be seen even from just a glance with it sitting low on road resembling a sprinter on the blocks ready for the race ahead.

The central position of the engine allows for an ideal weight distribution of 44 percent to the front and 56 percent to the rear.

Sweeping curves, rounded wheel arches and the distinctive air deflectors show the observer the quality of the manufacturer and model.

Behind the lovely cabin of the R8 beats an awesome 4.2 V8 and the best bit is that it sits right under a glass panel with its only lighting for all to see. The naturally aspirated engine delivers a hugely satisfying 420hp, revs all the way to 8250rpm and putting down a whopping 317ft-lbs from 4500-6000. This range of power enables the R8 to navigate practically any driving situation.

Lighting comes from a wonderfully constructed arrangement of reflector shells similar to pettles on a flower. Each shell contains a powerful LED (Light Emitting Diode), which produces high-luminosity, even form of driving light.

A cute little touch is the extending rear spoiler, which is deployed to provide extra downforce at higher speeds. This wonderfully retracts when you come back down to earth from hitting the ridiculous speeds, which this machine is capable of.

The interior is sporty and oozes quality from the styling of side windows, to the Leather/Alcantara trim of the seats and the placement/features on the central consol.

The R8 hits 60mph in a shade over 4 seconds leaving all but its main rivals the mighty Porsche 911 in its wake.

The transition of this wonderful machine comes from either a 6-speed manual or an optional Audi R tronic sequential-shift gearbox.

Four-wheel drive come as standard and it is needed for the driving possible from this machine especially in sports mode.

The comfort from driving R8 comes from is groundbreaking magnetorheological liquid which is influenced by an electromagnetic field. This changes the viscosity of the liquid. Two modes are available depending on the driving you are doing, sensors track the way you are driving to change the voltage delivered from the electromagnets. This is all very clever and really makes the drive as smooth as possible.

The stereo is second to none with it being a 465-watt Bang and Olufsen masterpiece.

Overall I can't rate this car highly enough it is the most engaging car I have ever had the chance of owning and I driving and I would highly recommend anyone to give one a test drive if you can't afford one.

        Info on audi R8

The audi R8 is a four whhel drive mid engined sports car. It was manufactured by qautro (a private branch of audi) and is derived from the Lamborghini Gallardo. It was designed as a race car but from 2006 almost 10,000 were built to be sold to the public. The road car was launched at the paris motor show in september 2006 but there was some confusion with the name as it shared it with the R8 Le mans prototype. The car is also used in the Tourenwagen Masters and superbike championships.
It takes 70 workers to fit the 5,000 parts that make the car together. In the factory in Germany they produce between 8-15 cars a day.
Initially the car had a combustion V8 engine with 32 valves tuned for maximum performance. It can do 0-100kmph in 4.4 seconds and has a top speed of 187mph. You can get a V10 version with 5.2 litre fuel injection.
This car based on the Lambo Gallardo can supposedly do 0-100kmph in 3.9 seconds and has a top speed of 196mph. It also has a more aggresive body, larger brakes and better wheels than the V8 version.
Audi have said it is faster than a porsche 911 and the evo magasine said it outperformed the Aston Martin DB9 and its sister car the Gallardo by alot.
Overall I think its a pretty amazing car. I think this car gives us a view into what cars may look like in the future. Its beautiful to drive. Its sleek and cool. It handle well. It just blows your mind how nice it is. Nice one Audi!!
