The audi R8 is a four whhel drive mid engined sports car. It was manufactured by qautro (a private branch of audi) and is derived from the Lamborghini Gallardo. It was designed as a race car but from 2006 almost 10,000 were built to be sold to the public. The road car was launched at the paris motor show in september 2006 but there was some confusion with the name as it shared it with the R8 Le mans prototype. The car is also used in the Tourenwagen Masters and superbike championships.
It takes 70 workers to fit the 5,000 parts that make the car together. In the factory in Germany they produce between 8-15 cars a day.
Initially the car had a combustion V8 engine with 32 valves tuned for maximum performance. It can do 0-100kmph in 4.4 seconds and has a top speed of 187mph. You can get a V10 version with 5.2 litre fuel injection.
This car based on the Lambo Gallardo can supposedly do 0-100kmph in 3.9 seconds and has a top speed of 196mph. It also has a more aggresive body, larger brakes and better wheels than the V8 version.
Audi have said it is faster than a porsche 911 and the evo magasine said it outperformed the Aston Martin DB9 and its sister car the Gallardo by alot.
Overall I think its a pretty amazing car. I think this car gives us a view into what cars may look like in the future. Its beautiful to drive. Its sleek and cool. It handle well. It just blows your mind how nice it is. Nice one Audi!!
