'Space Saver Spare Wheels' (BMW 320d)
Member Name: kennethreay
Advantages: good fuel consumption Disadvantages: tyre availability
I recently (March) purchased a 320D SE Saloon. During a subsequent holiday in France (in May), I was unfortunate to have a puncture whilst travelling at high speed. The tyre was damaged beyond repair. It was only then that I discovered BMW have taken to fitting space saver spare wheels, presumambly as a penny pinching exercise, since the boot is perfectly capable of accepting a full size spare wheel. Next problem the made in France (yes I was in France) tyres where unobtainable for 20 (yes 20) days. I telephoned the BMW Emergency Breakdown service, the best they could do was direct me to a tyre dealer who did not have the correct tyre. Once back in the UK it took the local BMW dealer 3 working days to obtain a replacement. Be warned do not get a puncture in your new 320D, unless you enjoy driving at 50mph until they source you a tyre. Summary: |
