Advantages: Looks, Engine , Ride

Disadvantages: Costs, Build quality, BMW garages

I've owned the predecessor of the the 330Ci, the 328Ci, for a year now, having previously owned 4 BMWs. I bought it new only to discover that the 330Ci was announced a few months later, and it was significantly cheaper. That's garages for you. The car itself is stunningly good looking, very quick and smooth. It does however have a few drawbacks which anyone looking at buying one should consider.

Surprisingly I don't believe the build quality to be as it used to be. For example the Harman Kardon hi-fi system is excellent at loosening panels and demonstrating the 328's propensity to shake, rattle and roll along to the music.

The low profile tyres are a nightmare. I'm now on my fourth tyre and third wheel, after hitting a couple of pot holes and scraping the kerb twice. My fault, I know, but the low profiles are unforgiving. A tyre and wheel will set you back 600 quid in a BMW garage - they don't tell you that in the brochure!

I do love driving the car but I don't think I'll buy another one...the M5 beckons.

It's a hairdresser's cruiser and it's the ultimate driving machine. What I was trying to say was that it's not as well built as previous BMW's I've owned.

The engine is mighty powerful for such a relatively smnall car. It shares all previously owned BMW's by being tail happy, especially getting away from lights. You will find yourself being gazed at by 13 year old boys, but it's not a head turning car.
Don't waste money on the low profiles and the Harman Kardon Hi-Fi.

Some of the interior toys are good like the windscreen wipers that sense rain. The car is almost impossible to break into. The automatically dipping rear view mirror is peachy. The leather upholstery is very comfortable and the air con is great in the hot weather. The folding up mirrors seem cute but pointless. The electric seats with memory are cool. Have I said it goes like the wind and is rock solid at high speed on the Autobahn ( I never go over 70 in the UK). It does hug bends but twitches on the limit. Wheelspin is standard at traffic lights.

What else would you like to know?

Oh yes the price went down after I bought it, how pissed off should I be?

And as for the prices in the brochure - show me where the retail price of the alloys and their tyres are in the price list, and I'll retract my comment.

I can't work out whether driver8 thinks this is the "Ultimate Driving Machine" or a "hairdresser's Cruiser"

Well written op.
But not nearly enough detail about the car. All you did was whet my appetite!
If you ever rewrite, then let me know and I'll up my rating from "SU".
