Replacing a car can be very stressful. The most difficult decision is 'what car' to buy. My husband and I decided that we would make a list of all the cars we fancy, visit the dealerships and then make a short-list. This review is intended to give you an idea of how we found the dealerships, in this case BMW, as potential buyers. How we were treated and what their service was like. We cannot comment on after-sale service as we have not experienced it yet (we are still in the process of whittling down our short-list).

My husband and I decided to pay a visit to a large BMW dealership in north-east London as I like the look of their X-3. A good friend of mine drives an X-3 and likes the car so much that she had hers shipped to South Africa when she moved there in May - she simply couldn't bear to part from her X-3! We were originally reluctant to go to BMW as we currently drive a Mini-Cooper (which is owned by BMW) and our main complaint with BMW is their exorbitant service and maintenance charges.

I am glad that we visited BMW as the service we received was excellent. There was plenty of customer parking. We were interested in looking at a 2005 model X-3 and luckily they had one available for us to have a look at and test-drive. After taking down our details we went on a lovely test-drive, driving on main streets as well as country lanes. The salesman gave us good advice on how regularly used X-3's are available, and also offered to look for one for us whenever we are ready to purchase. While we were having a chat to the salesman we were offered tea, coffee and hot-chocolate. They also have a nice waiting area for customers to sit down and relax while waiting for an appointment.

There is only one negative about the service at BMW: the salesman offered to check the trade-in value of our Mini and promised to get back to us later the same day with the price. It is now almost 2 weeks later and we have still not received our trade-in quote.
