Advantages: performance, power, practicality

Disadvantages: inert steering

The perfect blend of performance and practicality for less than £40,000? Look no further than the M3.
In the performance stakes it can trade punches with the 911 without flinching: 0-60 mph in 4.8s and 0-100 in less than 12s. The paddle-shift SMG (squential manual gearbox) is the best in the business and set to the ultimate peformance mode can change gear quicker than Ferrari's 360 Modena, aggressively hammering the gear shifts while you keep the throttle planted to the footwell. With the SMG you also have the option of "launch" control for that fast-and-furious getaway from the lights.
The normally aspirated engine is supremely flexible and free-revving. At idle the engine can sound a bit tiny and I recommend that you marry it to a performance exhaust to get an F-1 soundtrack.
Of course its practical (4-seats) and BMW can supply a F-1 style child-seat that plugs straight into the rear seats. Enough space for a one of those massive push-chairs in the boot. The front leather sports seats are supremely comfortable and the driver's seats adjusts in all the right places so you can get really comfortable.
Disadvantages are few and far between. The steering does have a slightly artificial feel and not as crisp as one would like (unlike my previous Lotus Esprit). The ride is compliant (I recommend the 18 inch wheels despite the slight loss in kudos) but at the expense of providing you with the direct communcation with the road surface. In any event, with the dynamic stability control engaged the limits of adhesion are almost impossible to break in normal road-going conditions. Indeed I have had the uncompromising P1 Impreza struggling to keep up with me along some undulating country roads.
In summary, the M3 can be the ideal family car - a Bruce Banner - but don't get it angry, because if you do, you will unleash a raging beast with performance that only the more specialist exotica can tame.

Welcome to Dooyoo.

A few tips to get you started on the site: Although there's no limit on the amount of reviews you can post it's better to post just three a day then you'll find you get more reads. If you read and rate around the site you'll soon find out what should be included in a review plus you'll get known to other members which will result in them reading things that you post.

It?s always a good idea to write your reviews as though you are writing for someone who has never heard of the product, that way you?ll cover everything. Also it?s best to write your review in Microsoft Word and run a spellchecker before posting onto the site.

You can ask any of the guides for help with any aspect of the site and a list of all the guides can be found here http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/c ommunity/_page/advice_gui des/. They will do everything they can to help with your query.

You may have noticed that there are no capital letters on reviews that you post on the site. However, there is a fix for this and full instructions can be found at http://www.chuckleweb.co. uk/fixit.php.

La stly you can sign up for your own guest book at http://www.crosswordcheat s.com/tooyoo/ where you can chat with other Dooyoo members.

Above all I hope you enjoy it here and have fun :O) Sara

Quite fancy an M3 myself... currently have an Impreza WRX STI which I love to bits at the moment though. Need to do some saving before I go for an M3.
