BMW Mini One

Hmmm, the MINI One. I knew the old Mini really well, when I was 18, me and my brother stripped the engine from his 1967 Morris Mini Mk2 and rebuild it. We loved that car, it was really his car but I admit I was jealous. Sure it had its faults but this was seat of your pants motoring, 30 mph felt like 90mph and it would handle like it was on rails. I love my mini and certainly BMW have done a great job of bringing back this classic car, mine is just over three years old and I bought t for £4,000 about a year ago from a friend. The interior is nice and stylish with a big retro dial in the center of the dash board which is easy to read what ever your driving position. The rest of the interior is well designed with clean lines and an eye for detail. BMW have done it. They have taken the old rover mini and made it better. The Germans have had a knack of doing this over the years and they have done it again. To do this they had a job. They had to keep the foibles and quirks that made the old mini so lovable. They had to inject modern styling and performance with the handling to match. They had to make it safe on today's roads and frugal enough to pass tomorrow's emission tests. They had to do all this at an affordable price. The new Mini, its a cute looking car, a fashion car, like the new Beetle. Is it more about style than substance?? Its all quite well put together, very stylish. Some areas of trim are a bit flimsy though. Its great fun to drive on short journeys, lovely sharp steering, responsive handling. But on a longer journey, its tiring, that ride, oh, its just too firm and fidgets all time, you constantly have to correct the steering, after an hour its pretty tiring. It has finally arrived. The return of the classic and probably most lovable car of its generation, the mini. Launched on July 7th, it is the first small car to be made by german giants BMW. Those of you that have been sceptical about the re-birth of a british icon being made by a German manufacturer shouldn't be. Yes it is different to the original mini but you would expect it to be.
