BMW 530d SE Touring
by Janor1 I have an 04 BMW 530d auto and I like it but the running costs are so high I won't keep it. Driving Yes it's a 5 series so road handling is good especially on bends even at fairly high speed. It does feel as though it is glued to the road. Vision is good all the way around I am a small female and I find reverse and ... parallel parking so easy with or without the parking sensors on. Parking front end first is not so easy as this car is wide and long. For its size the turning circle is good. Brakes are really good although my husband who has an M-Series finds them a bit sharp but I like knowing that they are reactive. Accelaration is as hard or soft as you want it to be although being automatic there is a split second delay before it responds. I found that very irritating at first but now a year later I am used to it. If you accelerate hard you can see the results instantly, watch the petrol gauge needle drop. If you can keep your speed constant at 65-70mph (I use cruise control as much as possible) you can get 35mpg but if you are driving either short or town journeys that will bring your consumption down to a costly 24mpg. I am still a fan of manual gears although BMW automatic gearboxes must be one of the best available, so smooth. Although it is not cheap the comfort level is high. The heated leather seats not only have many positions as you would expect from this class of vehicle but also have an extension that pulls out to the front to support long legs or if you are reasonably short as I am (5ft 3ins) you can rest your legs on. I also have a heated steering wheel and this Winter it certainly was worth every penny. My friends watch my front demister in awe because in 3-4 seconds that windscreen is clear. I thought I was imagining it the first time I watched it but it does clear the windscreen that fast. I find the heating system is average but the air conditioning is good. One of my favourite things is the panoramic sun roof it is huge! The other great thing is the boot space. Put the rear seats down and you have a very large space to fill. The computer system that controls all the warning systems, music, sat nav ect covers almost anything you can imagine the car could have but it sometimes can be a little irritating. It will tell you that there is a flat tyre when you lost hardly any pressure. Now I am going to tell you about the things I really hate about this car. It only uses run flat tyres which are always getting punctures and they are very expensive to replace. Yes you can drive them for a little way as long as you keep the speed under 50mph but I have never gone through so many tyres! I know it's a diesel but the engine is loud and for a car of this class I think BMW should have done better. My wing mirror got smashed and just to replace the glass cost £180, disgusting. I have driven many different cars during the last 20 years. If price is not a consideration buy Bentley , Aston Martin or Maserati if you want value for money in the luxury range go for Audi or Lexus. In the middle range go for VW, Vauxhall, Mazda, Ford or Toyota. At the cheaper end go for Peugeot or Nissan. Would I buy one again? No I would buy an Audi A6, quieter, more fuel efficient and cheaper tyres! Read the complete review |

BMW 316i SE
by MrLondonReviewer I am happy to say I own this baby Beamer starter model 316ti SE. BMW's are known worldwide for their excellent in build and engineering. BMW cars are said to last very long and I totally agree with this as the Compact hatchback range is no exception. The manufacturer has gone to great pains with model updates to ensure the ... success story continues by refusing to compromise on quality, and strengthening the all-important element of desirability. =Advanatge= The model I chose to test drive was a black 316ti SE and after initially parking it up alongside a 7 Series, I felt I'd got the same attention to detail, the same superb build, refinement and status. The 316ti SE uses the same revolutionary Valvetronic 1.8 litre petrol engine, a 115bhp British built four-cylinder unit. Valvetronic means the engine offers the same fuel economy as an advanced direct-injection engine, but without the need for elaborate emission management technologies. In short, it has cut harmful emissions by 10%, and increased power by the same amount - in case your wondering! It doesn't require sulphur-free fuel like a direct injection petrol engine, either: it can run on all commercially available grades of regular petrol. You can easily coax 50mpg out of it taking things easy around town, because the 316ti's real power doesn't punch in until your well up the rev counter (very handy on the roads today). I am a tall driver so the BMW is great for lowering the front seat, which thankfully meets my driving needs. One thing I would like to point out is that the offset pedals did take a little adapting to when I first bought the car. The SE specification gives the BMW car a reasonable kit and good passenger safety features. The kit makes the car look sporty and modified which I believe is great if you like to turn heads on the streets. But BMW, like Mercedes and Audi, love to charge extra for the extras. It came with £3000 of add-ons. Included was £95 for the colour-coded door handles, and I think I could live without the SE's original alloys, without paying another £1,540 for the supplied seven-star wheels. =Disadvantage= I would sadly say that the 316ti has one disadvantage that the inclusive automatic air conditioning went down to 16 degrees, one degree under room temerature. So on a hot summer's day, don't expect to have your cold air condition on as the air condition being turned on makes no difference whatsoever. =Conclusion= The new Compact is a fantastic car with superb build and engineering but beware of the extras which can take your total outlay from a relatively cheap amount. I would recommend anyone to buy the BMW 3series but I want you to be aware that it does cost a lot to maintain. =SPECIFICATIONS= BMW 3 Series Compact 316ti SE £16,225 Compact eight-model 3dr hatchback range from 1.6Ti (£16,265) to 325ti Sport (£23,550). BMW Mini One
by marzyuk i was always a huge fan of Mini's but when i was 18 I needed a car that was fast and reliable enough to withstand a weekly commute to visit my boyfriend, travelling from Durham to Manchester. I had visions of the old Mini conking out and don't managing the motorways so I was very lucky to get a new BMW MINI One. I am now 25 and I have my ... 3rd Mini One and I am still very much in love with Mini's. My review is purely a 25 year old girls feeling and not super technical ... I love the shape of the Mini. It is chunky and wide and grips the road like a dream. If we get any more snow or icy roads you will see what I mean, it handles like a dream. It comes in many colours (I have Indie Blue, then black and Black again) I always go for metallic to get the extra shine and protection. I also get a transfer on the roof to make my car that bit more individual, these can be custom made or the choice in store is great I get the silver union jack for my black Mini, similarly I get matching plastic small panels around my external indicator lights. Basically the car is great for customising and making your own. This does cost extra but is worth it. I have a 'salt' pack in my car which is a bunch of added extras. The best thing being small coloured lights in my car by the handles, reading light etc which you can change colour. I did have blue but prefer the pink ones. You change the colour by a simple click on a button. This is part of the internal computer system which is a small round dial, like the speed dial which tells you digital mph, miles left til you need to refuel, temperature and time. The bucket seats are comfortable and classy. I love the huge speed dial in the middle of the car (not the right hand side). It's very retro. There is a secret compartment built in above the front passenger 'cubby hole' cupboard to hide your sat nav and ipod etc. The boot is a little small but is expected for a car that size. However it's easy enough to drop the back seats if extra room is required. Overall there is loads of extras you can buy to make this car individual and unique. It starts at around £10k for a basic model but you usually pay more with extra's. New Mini's come with 3 years parts and labour and I got a free £250 photography voucher when I bought mine. It is a reliable car and very nice to drive. The brakes are very responsive and the 6 gears chunky and firm. I will be buying another when i've had mine 3 years and the warranty runs out.
