Advantages: Performance, Looks, comfort

Disadvantages: none

We've had our C3 Hdi SX since Sept 2002 it hasn't put a wheel wrong ever since! We chose it because we wanted a reliable, economical and stylish small car. It met all those requirements and a heck of a lot more, proving to have lots of personality too.

The performance coming from a 1.4 Hdi engine is astounding supplying plenty of torque from about 1750rpm upwards so you rarely find yourself lacking in power. Couple this with potential combined 67mpg and it's hard to find fault. Ours is mostly used on short journeys and even then is easily returning 55mpg.

I like the fact that you can sit high up in the car and it gives you a real big car feel on the road, it's a bit of an illusion because in reality it's no bigger than a Fiesta. The important thing though is it makes you feel safe. The interior is well appointed and I don't share the common belief that Citroen interiors are cheap. The C3 interior especially in this model seems well put together and is very comfortable, sure some of the plastics could be better quality but this really is a minor gripe. We were impressed by the level of equipment supplied, with 4 airbags, aircon, CD player ABS, EBD and Emergency Brake Assist, with some nice touches like the moveable bin/ashtray that fits into any of the cupholders etc.

Driving the car is always a pleasure it handles well, with slightly stiffer suspension than you normally get in a French car but ironing out the bumps & potholes with ease, being fairly tall it is slightly prone to body roll when cornering hard but again this is only a minor gripe as it seems very well sorted.

To sum up we are well pleased with our purchase and after 5 months of totally trouble free motoring would have no hesitation in recommeding the car to others. I'm just glad we didn't buy a Fiesta!

Short update - the C3 is now 12 months old and will shortly be going in for it's service. Contrary to popular opinion and a few short sighted forecasts absolutely nothing has gone wrong with the car in it's first year, nothing has fallen off and the mpg continues to improve... We've had 12,000 fault and hassle free miles. All smiles here!

7 months now and still going well, nearest thing we've had to a problem is the passenger sun-visor that squeaks when you rotate it towards the side window. decided to live with that until it goes in for it's first annual service. mpg actually improving as the engine gets more miles on it and presumably frees up. We are now over 60mpg even in mostly short trips and city driving.

It is a question of 'balanced' reviews, jonners. Either you are undemanding or you lack objectivity if you acnnot find anything that should be improved.

BTW, did you consider a Honda Jazz? they seem to get the raves in this car range (the base model available at about £8000). A relative has bought one last month.

I hope that you are as lucky with your Bosch white goods as we were with our basic Bosch Wishdosher. Has lasted over 10 years in total. And it washes better than the Miele that we had installed a year ago. We are currently looking for a washing machine. Bosch/Miele/LG are on our short-leet so I shall watch out for the washer review. A Candy we bought 5 years' ago has been VERY reliable, but seems short on capacity and washing performance.

Oh - I could have 'insulted' you more by suggesting that you were trying to be a reptile (journalist) - writing practice puff for free newspapers (as a well-known Dooblin cabby driver DooYoo writer has been guilty of in the past).

I acn accept that you don't work at Comet ... lol
