Advantages: Fuel consumption, Holds the road well, Feels safe

Disadvantages: Bodywork dents easilys, Service costs, A bit boring

I have had a Xsara TDSX from new for nearly three years now; in that time I have had only minor problems with it. The worst problem has been the brakes occasionally binding, the other main problem is, the bodywork is very susceptible to dents from car doors, trolleys etc. it seems as if another car door only has to look at it and it dents.

Diesel consumption around town is not that great but on long journeys and motorway driving it is excellent, it is also very quiet at low and high speeds (although it does have a annoying wind whistle at high speeds) Driving the Xsara is fine the acceleration for a diesel is good, especially when the Turbo cuts in, it holds the road firmly and the suspension handles most things the road throws at it and best of all it feels safe at all speeds.

Comfort wise, the drivers seat is a bit uncomfortable until you get used to it, the air conditioning is great in the summer, especially if, like me, you suffer from hay fever. Another good feature is the radio controls on the steering wheel which means you don't have to take your eyes of the road to adjust station, volume etc.

On looks it is okay, I find the metallic paint colours look best on it, the interior is fine if a little plasticky.

Service cost at main dealers are, in my opinion a bit high.

All in All the Xsara is a reasonably good family car but if I’m being honest with myself it is a bit boring
