Advantages: Small, nimble and nippy off the mark, Amazingly capacious when needed

Disadvantages: Basic design and features

My first car was a Fiat Cinquecento, back in 1997 I bought one second hand and it was only at the end of October 2000 that I replaced it. While it may not be a looker and it certainly isn't a mover, the Fiat Cinquecento has a personality that makes it seem like one of the family.

My car was an unbadged 899cc model, which later became the Cinquecento S.

I moved house six times in the three and a half years I was actively driving my car, and it took all of my abuse in its stride. Never have I seen such a small car that is able to transport a boxed 28" television set or two boxed 17" monitors in one go, with room to spare.

You can sit four reasonably sized adults in the Cinquecento in moderate comfort, any discomfort is derived from the basic design of the seats, not from any lack of room.

The Cinquecento is a town car, pure and simple. It can fit into tiny spaces, you can almost perform a three point turn in a parking space and what little power you can get out of the engine is almost all used to get you up to 20 mph.

As these cars are now not being produced any more, you can pick them up at a ridiculous price, perfect for a student or a first time buyer.

When I finally did upgrade to another car, I passed on my Cinquecento to my sister, who loves it now as much as I ever did.

A good town car, but I prefer a larger car - Kay
