Advantages: first-car material, cheap, cute

Disadvantages: basic

i searched high and low for my first car.... i searched everywhere, for months on end with no luck. then suddenly, i found it! as soon as i saaw my n reg fiat punto, which was almost new at the time, i persuaded my dad to help me buy it even though he hates fiats, saying they are unreliable and tacky.

as soon as i passed my test, i drove this car everywhere, even up the lane to the village ahop because i loved it so much! it was a car i liked to be seen in- although it was small looking from the outside, it was quite spacious inside- i could usually squeeze about 5 friends in the back, 2 in the front and 1 in the boot... which also had quite a lot of space (as i used to keep practically all of my wardrobe in there)

the punto was quite a nippy little thing, did 0-60 in about 25 secs! but mine was the 1.1 version, im sure there are quicker versions! well, it seemed fast at the time, as i had been used to a push bike until then!

handling was great... or so i thought. i used to ram it along the open roads and round all sorts of twists and turns thinking it could handle anything. until one day i got my cummupence when taking a corner too fast and the whole car turned right over onto its roof and i was left upside down and fastened to my seat in the middle of the road! the punto coped quite well and only cost me (my dad) £300 to repair!

from then on, i learnt that this is a convenience car, not a performance car- its purpose is to serve its owner with good value for money, to be cheap to run and to be reliable. its simple: this car was built to get you from A to B. nothing else.

nothing else really went wrong with my punto- no problems, it never broke down, always started in the cold mornings of the winter when everyone elses cars didnt, and most of all it was CHEAP!! i could usually get about 60 miles out of a fiver.

and it looked good. the white ones look best (when theyre clean). but lose the black bumpers, th
ey dont do it any favours. the interior is ok-- bit plasticy and basic as is the streo system, but stick a cd player and a couple of woofers in there and you'll have yourself a mini disco!

all in all, the car served me well. in the 2 years i had it, it did about 30,000 miles jsut cruisin round the country and not once did it have to visit a garage (through its own fault anyway).

bet your wondering what happened to it, eh? well some old biddy in a 205 "didnt see it" smashed into it and killied it. now its probably in some scrapyard being recycled, hopefully to make more fiat puntos out of. :)

I bought a nearly new one in March. Haven't turned it over yet though! :)

Sometimes I wish I could drive. My husband also wishes I could do as well.
Even though I've had lessons I chickened out, too many nutters around for my liking.
