Advantages: Fuel consumption, Performance, Styling

Disadvantages: Brakes, 2 wiper speeds, No alarm

I bought my Seicento sporting in October 2001. So far (8500 miles), I have been extremely impressed with the build quality, reliability and performance of this model.

This car is my first car and I chose it for its combination of looks, low insurance group(3), and sheer value for money. The car has an impressive standard kit list: sunroof, electric windows, power steering, CD player, drivers airbag and alloy wheels as standard.

I grin every time I drive this car - the engine is lively and free revving (especially with Super Unleaded) and the low stance of the car coupled with the power steering gives the car go-lart like handling!

The late 2001 model had the following additions compared to its predecessors: power steering (well-weighted), revised engine with hydraulic tappets, and restyling of the front spoiler. The engine makes a 'tappety' noise when idling but sounds great when revved on the open road. I typically achieve 280 miles from a full tank of fuel (35 litres ~£25), this is excellent considering my tendancy to accelerate hard.

Seats are firm and supportive. The rear seats are only practical for short journeys. Space for the driver is adequate, front passenger legroom is slightly cramped even with the seat adjusted fully back.

I find spongy brakes to be the major fault with the car. The car needs better braking performance to cope with the (surprisingly good) acceleration. I am considering upgrading the discs and pads in the near future. Other annoyances include only 2 speed wipers, the poor wiper blades(do replace them!), poor handbrake and a slight squeal from the engine at low revs in very cold weather.

The standard Sony stereo unit is very good but the front speakers are poor.I replaced them with better quality speakers and installed rear speakers in a custom built parcel shelf. Security on the car is poor and I would recommend an Thatcham cat 2-1 alarm upgrade to the standard immobiliser. <

Fiat dealership in South of England excellent. Coming up to first service (12000 mile service interval for 2001 models onwards)and price will be just over £100.

I thoroughly recommend this car!

They're nippy little buggers, right enough.
But to be honest, I like bigger cars myself. I always think that the rear seat pasengers are at HUGE risk in this particular car, as their backs are practically touching the rear of the car.
