I owned an escort eclipse (1991) for years and so i can comment on how it faired as a car during that time.

Its pros were its features as it came with all of the end of the line accessories such as e/windows, remote central locking, metallic paint body colour bumpers and a sun roof. It was available in two colours, blue and burgandy (both metallic).

Its cons were the engine. It was only available in petrol 1300cc and was an overhead cam so it sounded like a sewing machine. Mine leaked oil regularly. I also had problems with water getting into the electric window switches due to a poor design. I had paint peeling on the front wing also. The interior was cloth and there was lots of grey plastic everywhere.

Overall, it is a smart looking car with plenty to play with but it is literally all show no go.
