Advantages: Reliable, Cheap, Comfortable, Nippy

Disadvantages: Prone To Leaks, No Remote Central Locking, Rather Cramped In Back Seats

I recently turned 18 and thought to myself, I'm fed up of using my dads car so I quickly got out there looking for my first car. There were so many different choices and I was slightly confused which to choose untill one day my little fiesta popped up!

I thought to myself, they must be pretty decent cars, you see so many of them on the roads and i can see why.

I ended up buying my 1998 S Reg Fiesta 1.25i 16v Zetec (94k on the clock!) for just under £1000 and it was a complete steal, your probably thinking to yourself 94k eek stay away but the engine when started (first time everytime!) sounds no louder than new cars.

The fiesta in itself is an excellent car, ok, it isn't the most luxurious, nor is it the quickest car out there but being 18 years old it gets me from A to B quite comfortably and fairly quickly. The car in itself does have a lot of plus points and a few negatives.

Some of the plus points which are fairly useful are:

Front and Rear Fog Lights
Power Assisted Steering (PAS)
Airbags
Central Locking (Sadly not remote...)
Electric Windows (LX Zetec Model Only I Believe)

Something I can't seem to match in any other car (including my dads 05 corsa) are the Ford heaters! My car will be boiling hot within a matter of 1 or 2 minutes and will stay lovely and toasty!

The boot space is suprisingly good too, you can happily fit a good weeks shopping in the boot with no issues.

The only real negatives I've noticed within my fiesta seems to be a common problem, leaky doors..The only other issue which doesnt affect me as I'm up front is the back seats are rather cramped so i'm told (but I am 6'3 so...) Oh and the steering column isn't adjustable which can be a pain but you learn to deal with it!

Overall i'm really impressed with my fiesta though, the 1.25 engine although sounding small is infact very nippy, it's great on motorways, extremely quiet and will happily sit at 70 or cruise past other people without any issues. The MPG in the car is also fairly good, i get between 30-40 dependant on situation of course.

Any bad rumours you've heard about this car, ignore them. It's an excellent first car but do look out for the Ghia Models or LX Zetec models if you want those extra electric touches and added features such as Air Con, Eletric Mirrors etc.

Summary: Excellent run around cars, will happily do anything you set it to do!

I've had a few Fiestas, one brand new and the rest were second hand (after I wrote off the brand new one within two weeks I was never allowed a 'showroom' car again!). I loved all of them, even my most recent old banger type which struggled to reach 50!
