Advantages: Nippy, cheap
Disadvantages: Bit basic
I had my beautiful 2002 Ford Fiesta Finesse as my first car and it really did serve me well. It lasted me 4 years then I traded her in for a Golf but I do occasionally drive my mums Fiesta so I can reminisce about how much fun she was to drive.
Don't get me wrong, there is no way I would ever trade n my Golf to get the Fiesta back again but I think that, as a first car, you really cant go wrong with it. Mine was a 3 door 1250 CC and that was enough for me at the time. Sure it had trouble getting up hills and the back was pretty cramped but I still loved it.
The one main thing that I really liked was the fact that it was so light. You could go round a corner and just use your pinky to turn the wheel. It was so much fun! The joys of power steering.
As I said, it only had a small engine and this combined with the fact that it was only 8 valve meant that on a steep slope, the car would struggle to make it up the hill in second gear. Needless to say this was very infuriating and I could probably get out and walk quicker! The small engine also meant that the car would struggle when on the motorways. Obviously the top speed wasn't very high so if you got to a speed above about 80mph then the outside noise would be very high and the engine would be working very hard.
In terms of the interior of the car, it doesn't get more basic than what I had! It basically had all the important things and not much else. It had a CD player, manual windows and not much else! The radio was pretty basic; it just had a basic display to show you what radio station you were listening to and had the ability to pre set 12 stations. The car speakers also were not too great and couldn't handle music at quite loud (not deafening) sound levels. The one thing I would have liked to have is air conditioning. As the car was a dark blue, in the summer it would get very warm if left in the sun too long and the car would retain this heat.
The car is very fuel efficient though. I would normally put the normal unleaded in the car and the car would do about 40mpg which I found to be great.
Visually I think the car looks very good. It looks like the old Focus but a baby version of it. The one thing my car didn't have that I would have liked to see was alloy wheels. I think this would have certainly improved its look.
Finally, the price of the Fiesta is very low. I paid about £5,000 for mine and it was a year old and had about 10,000 miles on the clock. Brand new I think they are about £9,000.
On a final note, I must say that in terms of reliability there were no problems at all in the 4 years I had my car. It passed every MOT and every service went through without a problem
Overall, like I said, I loved my car. It wasn't the fastest car and it didn't have the best interior but it was my first car and for that reason alone I will always love it!
Summary: I wouldnt have swapped it for the world
