Advantages: small, stylish, good price

Disadvantages: could have more room in back

My fiancé Simon has had his Fiesta for just over a month and so far we have discovered no problems. We decided to get a new car a couple of months ago when Simon had his old one broken into. He has not had a lot of luck where cars are concerned so we decided for his sake it would be best to go for a brand new one. As we had a quite a low budget it was decided a small car would have to make do. We looked around a few garages at different makes and eventually decided on the Ford Fiesta Flight.

I know a fair amount about cars although I cannot drive. I am not a mechanic so I don’t know the ins and outs of how the thing runs but I can usually tell when a car doesn’t sound too healthy.

The Ford Fiesta Flight has stylish alloy wheels and drives really well. I can now endure a long journey without feeling the need to stick my head out of the window to relieve myself. We went for the three door model as we didn’t feel the need to pay the extra for two extra doors.

It has very basic features and is missing things like electric windows, air conditioning and front fog lights but to me these are not necessities and you get what you pay for.

I particularly like the colour of our car as it is quite different. It is called Medium Steel Blue and is a mixture between blue, grey and silver. It is metallic and seems to look clean unlike colours like Black. They do a range of colours though and we was tempted t go for the silver but then we decided to be original.

Inside there is plenty of space in the front. The back could prove a bit squashed with three adults in but we don’t expect to be in this situation often.

There is a wind up tilted sunroof which is also removable although I think we will keep it firmly in place as I have images of us losing the glass when driving down the motorway.

The radio cassette is very basic and very easy to use. The interior is really nice. We chose Midnight Bla
ck which goes well with the colour of the car and I think is better than a light colour.

In a year or so I am hoping to have learnt how to drive and see this car as mine in the future. I have sat in the drivers seat a few times and find it very comfortable. There is manual height adjustment which means it would be good for me and my fiancé as I am fairly small.

Inside the bonnet it looks fairly complex and to make things easier everything that needs checking such as the screen washer, the oil, and the power steering fluid al have yellow caps to make them easier to find. I think this is a really good idea and it would save me a fair amount of time looking around.

As I am a student and need things carting backwards and forwards to university we needed a car with a reasonably sized boot. This has quite a big one for a small sized car and looks as if there won’t be a problem.

As for petrol consumption it is about average for a petrol car. For ours a 1299 cc catalyst engine the combined fuel consumption is 38.7 miles per gallon. this is what it says in the brochure and I am pleased to say we have tested it and worked it out to be around this figure.

One of the best things about this car is the price. you can get your hands on a brand new one for around £7000 which is quite good considering the competitors.

I will leave you with a comment from the driver himself.
After all it is not my car and I am not driving it. (yet!)
Simon’s view - “ This is my first power steering car and it feels great. I am not regretting my purchase at all and I seem to be enjoying driving again. I especially like the inside of the car as there is plenty of room to manoeuvre around. I am 6ft and I found many small cars did not have enough room for my head to breathe but this is very comfortable.”

Sounds OK to me, not that I know that much about cars (I've got a Golf). Midnight black? Is that different from black? Great op - Kay

We had a fiesta until recently (it was very old - E reg) but we now have a mondeo. I am glad we have a bigger car as it is much more convenient with children, but I miss my little Fiesta. I think I would like another once my kid(s) grow up which will not be for a long time unfortunately as she is only 2! I wanted a car the colour of yours but my husband just had to have silver, so I lost out. Hope you enjoy being a passenger - maybe he will let you learn to drive in it?! Jo

Sounds like you've got a decent car - wish I had!
