Advantages: Cheap to run, insure and own
Disadvantages: Very basic but you get what you pay for
My wife had a 1993 Ford Fiesta for a few years, i used it on a regular basis and here are my experiences good, bad and ugly!
GOOD
The car is VERY cheap to run! Cheap on insurance, cheap on fuel, cheap on parts and cheap to buy! There are tons of Fiesta's around in the local scrap yards so if you ever have any problems, it is always worth a look (or even a check on ebay). Because they are so cheap, i have even heard of people buying a 'spare one' to keep for parts! Nice if you have the space and the spare cash.
The insurance group for these is very low (it varies depending on model but is normally in one of the lowest groups). There are various models such as 'Ghia' which is the top model (and has nice things like electrics etc) down to 'Popular' and similar models which are more basic.
These are quite fun cars to tinker with (as are most Fords) if you know a little about mechanics etc.
BAD
These are basic cars, even in the top specification they are hardly Bentley's - but come on, what do you expect for the money!
Most Fiesta's tend to drive well, though if you do find a problem (or think you find one) at the test drive then keep looking - there are plenty around to choose from!
UGLY
Fiestas are prone to a few different faults including head gasket and steering issues. The engine on my Wife's car went in very busy traffic, and it wasnt worth reparing so it was scrapped unfortunately.
The basic nature and looks of the car tend to put people off, but its well worth a look for a cheap A-B runabout.
Summary: Good runabout
