Advantages: Brilliant drive
Disadvantages: Poor rear legroom
I had owned a Fiesta years agao and when my wife sudenly announced that she had test driven one and bought it on the spot I thought that she'd had a nervous breakdown. Then I drove it. The 1.25 Zetec is amazing. In front it is comfortable with the usual standard of Ford ergonomic design. Everything is immediately to hand, clear and easy to use. The steering wheel adjusts and there is a good range of seat adjustment available to suit all heights. The seats are very comfortable and the trim gives the car a fairly light and airy feel. In the back it is very cramped. Legroom is the problem and if the driver needs their seat fully back then no-one can sit behind if their legs are more than 3 inches thick. The boot is, well, a Fiesta boot. Enough for a medium sized shop, nothing more. Fords adverts have focused on single 30 somethings - God help them when eventually they try to fit a buggy in! But we are now past that stage, so what's it like to drive. The first word that comes to mind is Fun...with a deliberate capital F. The Zetec is fast and responsive and sticks to the road. Just point it where you want to go, press the accelerator and you are there. The gearchange is fast and easy with well-spaced gears for town and motorway. It even seems to have had the exhaust note tuned to deliver a sporty note. All in all not the most innovative package but if you can live with its faults its brilliant to drive.
