This is the second Ford Focus that I have owned. Having a young family choosing the right car is of vital importance. For me I needed a car which was safe, reliable and not overly costly to run, this is the reason that I choose the Ford Focus. The previous model I had was the 1.4 litre so this time I went for the 1.6 litre petrol version.
I find the Focus has enough space for our family of four with the back seats easily accommodating the two child seats. The boot is large enough for the pram together with the shopping. I hve found the Focus to be extremely reliable and not overly expensive for parts etc during it'd yearly service. The focus is an easy drive and the 1.6 engine is more than enough power. The car comes with the usual front electric windows, cd player.
The Focus itself is in my opinion fairly average in price obviously depending on its age, condition etc.
I've owned my focus now for about 3 years after buying it at 4 years old. Overall its been an alright car to cope with until I can afford a newer model.
The look of the car is great, its got a good body, seats and sterring wheel look and handle great. The stereo system i think could do with a bit of a modern restyle but from what I've seen the newer models do look a bit fancy. The sound system is a little odd, you can hear a lot of crackling coming from the speakers which does let it down slightly.
Driving the car can feel a little bit like steering a boat. The handling on ice is wicked, I like to try and test out the donuts I can make in the roads at times. Also I like the way the cruise control can make the car feel quite like a smooth drive on the motorway which always helps.
Price wise the car isn't too bad. You can get a ford focus for around £11000 for a good quality model. I got mine for about £4000 with not too many miles.
Overall I like my car, it will do until I can get a newer model, but for old reliability its probably one of the best models you can get on the road right now.
The ford focus has been a staple of the driving world ever since it was introduced. I have been driving my beauty for a long while now. It is Britain's best- selling car for good reason. The car feels very comfortable to ride in, the fittings depend on the model that you get but they range from stylish to functional but they never feel cheap.
The car is quite economical on the road, ranging from 25-35 mpg depending on the driving that you are doing. Steering is light and responsive and town parking is easy enough (unlike my parents' Nissan Primera). The gearbox is of very high standard although a little tighter compared to its predecessor the Escort.
The focus might have shifted British design away from the angular 80-90s but the car is never going to win any awards for being good looking on the road these days. If you are interested in a Focus though, it is doubtful you are looking to win any style awards with it.
The car has ample boot space, making weekly shopping runs easy enough and the back seats can be taken down if you need to haul anything away. I have never regretted buying my beloved Focus and would recommend it to any driver in particular people living in towns.
I've been driving the Ford Focus 1.6 LX for the past year and I have been impressed by the vast improvements of the Escort LX which I used to drive before the Focus. What do I like about it? Its a car which gives a feeling of solidity in all its movements, icluding when you close the doors, it's easily manouverable, the seats seem to be a bit higher up than in other cars giving you a feeling of control on the road. It can also speed up considerably while still remaining easy to control. Putting on the ac does not tax the engine or seem to negatively affect its performance. What could be improved? Small things, which count however, like being able to open the fuel flap from inside the car, there also seems to be some problem with the tail gate - it often does not close properly but seems to get stuck on the first lock - this is a problem which other Focus drivers have also commented upon. Overall a great car!
