Advantages: Stylish, modern, safe & Feature packed

Disadvantages: Pricey

I bought a 2.0l Ghia in September and I am really impressed. I went for the stylish saloon rather than the cut off hatchback and boy is it a big car. It has all the extras you need and a few you don't and is well put together and stylish. The boot has masses of room in and being higher than the hatchback means less bending when you are getting shopping in and out.

I'm getting about 32MPG from it and that's with town driving, only 5 miles to work every day! When I do my motorway trips I get just over 38mpg, pretty good considering I'm a foot down sort of driver. I also find it comfortable and on the long journeys when I stop at the service station I adjust the steering wheel and seat to vary my driving position.

The car handles well and with both ABS and traction control I feel that its a safe vehicle to be in. The other day I was cut up by an idiot (and yes I can say he was an idiot when we had previously been stuck in traffic he was weaving in and out of lanes and his kids did not have seatbelts on) who cut across me on a slip road and pulled up on the grass. Both the ABS and the traction control came into play as I stood on my brakes to avoid him and an accident didn't happen. I'm sure that I would have hit him in my old car.

The extras on this car make it a joy to own. When its cold you have heated front and rear windscreens and heated door mirrors to speed up that de-icing process. A light on the dashboard shows you when you are running low on screen cleaner, which is better than running out in the middle of a long journey.

The on-board computer is also a useful gizmo. It tells you your fuel consumption in miles per gallon, your average speed in miles per hour, the outside temperature and your current miles per gallon and how many miles worth of petrol you have left in your tank (based on your fuel consumption). For those of you who think in metric, a simple button push will change all this to m
etric. If the temperature is 4 degrees or below the computer will beep as you start your engine and switch to showing you the temperature, a light on the dash also remains lit until the temperature rises above 4 degrees. When you get down to 50 miles of petrol, the computer beeps and switches to showing you how much petrol you have left.

-----UPDATE 29/01/01------
My Focus has spent today in the dealers for a repair. Basically on cold days the engine over revs once the car has warmed up. One morning I had travelled 17 miles and when I stopped the engine was at 3000 revs! They have called me and told me there is nothing they can do at present as this is a known fault with 2l Focus's. Ford are working on a fix to this problem and I will be contacted when a fix is available.

The price can be a bit high but when you see all the extras that you get (especially now you get a 3 year warranty) it seems worth it

We have a Focus (but not your make) so it was interesting to read your opinion. By the way, we've had problems with both our Fords, our latest one is the steering!
