Advantages: roomy and smart, fun to drive

Disadvantages: luggage space

The Ford Galaxy is probably the best known and most sold People carrier in the UK. This comes as no suprise, for as comfort, reliability, and sheer value for money, in my opinion, there is none better.

First introduced to the shores of Britain in 1995/6, the Galaxy has kept its original features, but changed its shape slightly to go with the times.
The model range consists of Petrol up to 2.8 litre engines and starting from 2.0 litre...And diesel 1.9 tdi, which is the best buy but are as rare as rocking horse poo!!!!

I have decided to tell you about the 2 litre, as that was the first one in the catagory, and other than performance, the interior is virtually the same!

Right, lets see if I can satisfy you data hungry staticians out there:

Cost new appx £18000

Colours available tend to change with the weather, as do all Ford models.
most commonly sold in Pepper Red or its nearest equivalent (Burgundyish)

4 year old model can be picked up for about £8000 on the used market, as they hold their value extremely well.

Standard features include Power Steering, electric windows, remote central locking, child locks, 7 seats, either air con or sun roof (if you find one without don't touch it, as it will be hard to sell at a later date) and either is required as they tend to act like a greenhouse in the heat.

Mettalic paint is usually an extra £250, and is worth having as the "flat" colours of red or white tend to age a lot quicker, making your Galaxy look jaded and old!

0-60 in about 10 seconds, depending on passenger load and how develish you feel with your right foot.

fuel consumption is pretty good, averaging about 33mpg, although on a 1500 mile round trip I only put in about £115 worth of petrol, which was then £3.50 a gallon, so I think on Motorways you can get up to 40 if you drive well! (this was in the automatic as well!)

Quite a pokey engine and the drive feel is
that of a car.
Handles well on the roads, rather like a mondeo, but is murder to reverse into tight parking spaces.
This can be resolved by fitting reverse sensors at a cost of about £200

All in all a good car for the money on a technical side.

On a personnal note, there is no room whatsoever for luggage or shopping etc.
Yeah right, you can take the seats out to make room for luggage, but isnt that defeating the object? and what if you have 4 or 5 kids, and you are going up to Gatwick for your holiday?

other than that the leg room is fine both front and back (and I am 6 ft)
and the car is worth the money, then some.

A good bye for a good buy

Angus

I too own a Galaxy. I agree the car gives a lot of spec for the money but the boot space with all the seats in is pathetic. I hope Ford change it in the not too distant future.
