In December 2000 I puchased a 1 year old Ford Galaxy Zetec 2.3 which had 10k on the clock. This is the best car that I have ever driven. It is nice looking, well equiped, fast, reliable and above all comfortable. In an average year I cover about 30k miles and at no point has my Galaxy ever let me down.

In october last year I had it converted to LPG as I was finding the 27 mpg (at best) a bit of a strain. The gas tank was sited in the spare wheel well which can leave you in a bit of a dilema with what to do with the spare. The spare will just about fit between the 3rd row and the back door. I now get about 20 mpg on LPG, but as it is half the price of petrol the savings are quite good. The cost of the conversion was £1300 so you will need to cover 30k on lpg to break even.

My friends and I have used the Galaxy to travel up and down the country following Gillingham FC and have found the car to perform well even with 6 men all the wrong side of 15 stone. We found that 7 was just abit too much of a squeeze, It is much better to have 2 people in row 3 and 2 in row 2 otherwise 3 in row 2 is a bit uncomfortable.

Anyway the Galaxy is now going, only to be replaced by another, which is a new model Zetec and yes, this time a diesel! LPG is ok but you can wait ages for a pump to become free and it takes a life time to fill it up.

On the downside the only real complaint I have is the cost of the tyres. I have got through 8 in nearly 2 years and at £141 each it is something which should be considered when purchasing a Galaxy with alloy wheels
