Advantages: Great car, wouldn't change it for anything

Disadvantages: NONE!

Ford Ka.

The Ford Ka. What a unique little car. I feel lucky enough to own one as they're such a pleasure to drive. Not only are they deceivingly roomy inside, reliable and good looking, not to mention quick and agile for such a small car.

-The Specs-

So what can you expect to get if you purchase a Ford Ka? Well, this review I will be talking about the 1997 Ford Ka model, which is a MK2. It has a 1.3 litre petrol Ford Endura engine with EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) which does a very healthy 30-40 miles per gallon. It comes as standard with a 5 speed manual gear box and has about 60-70 BHP(Brake Horse Power) which is very nippy seeing as the car weighs very little. The car is front wheel drive and does not have ABS. The Ka is insurance group 2 and the road tax is £66.00 for 6 months or £120.00 for 12 months.

It comes with 4 seats and arm rests for comfort, not to mention a lot of leg room for the driver and passenger. There is not an awful lot of room in the back as the back seats are quite small. They do however suit children very well or a shorter adult. All seats have seatbelts and there is a drivers airbag for safety. There is a decent amount of boot space, enough for a small shop just using the boot alone, but if you used the back seats also you can get a lot of shopping in.

-The Inside-

The interior of the Ford Ka is in my opinion, really really nice. Everything is very round and curvy like the car itself and nothing has the square look about which you might find in something like a Rover Metro. The seats are fabric blue and very comfy and there is a lot of storage space in the glovebox, which you can pull out and use as a carry case for small items. It comes as standard with a Ford RS 5000 FM Radio which can very easily be upgraded to a CD Player or downgraded to a Cassette player depending on the owners choice. There is however no sunroof in the Ford Ka.

The dashboard is very nice and rounded and all of the dials and interface is very easy to see. The speedometer is very clear aswell as the odometer and all of the warning lights are very bright and easy to recognise. There is however no rev counter with the Ford Ka so you need to be acquainted with the engine to get your gear shifts perfectly.

-The Cost-

How much does a Ford Ka cost? Well it depends on the model obviously and the milage and condition, however on average a 1997 Ka will set you back around £1000-£2000 depending on the milage, which is a very good price for something with a good size engine and such a low insurance group. All of the parts are pretty easy to get hold of for MOTs/Services and they're not very expensive either as they're pretty common and a lot of parts will even fit a Fiesta of the same year.

Ford Ka's are great cars for learners or just for a runaround as they're very reliable, very easy to get on with and they drive very smoothly. The Ka gearbox and clutch is very forgiving make it perfect for learners and the petrol consumption is also very good, making it quite cheap to run. Since the insurance group is so low (group 2) new drivers also have a chance to get insured without having to spend over 2 billion pounds just to drive it on the roads.

I personally reccomend the Ford Ka and LOVE to drive mine. Even when my Ka dies due to high milage I might even buy another.

Summary: Great car, well reccomended

Agree great first car however had bad experience of Ford dealership, found accelerator and brake pedals very close and suspension hard - overall good value though.

Nice review. Although I really don't like the Ford Ka, noisy and cramped in my opion!
