Advantages: Easy to drive, good size, affordable.
Disadvantages: A little too basic.
I have had my Ford Ka for two years now. It is 53 reg and I have found it to be easy to drive, cheap to run and a bargain buy. My girlfriend drives it frequently and can park it without much trouble - something that is rather a novelty!
The interior of the car is what you would expect for the price you pay for the car - basic but functional. The seats are quality material but not particularly attractive and the dashboard display basic. The glovebox is very small and closes with a cover that pulls over the top - not the usual design. The car is actually deceptively spacious in the front but a little more compact in the back.
I have experienced three problems while in possession of the car. The first is that my head gasket needed replacing last year and cost £500 to replace at a garage. Apparently whilst the parts for Fords are cheap, the head gasket is difficult to get to on the Ka. The second problem is one of the windows - the most basic version of the Ka does not have electric windows and the winder has broken on mine so I can't open the window. I have not yet had this fixed but have been told that the whole window mechanism will need to be replaced as this comes as a whole rather than in parts. The final problem is the door catch - this has slipped out of place on a few occasions so that the door cannot close once opened. After calling out Green Flag, I was told that this is a common fault on Kas and does not need to be fixed - I was shown how to slip this back into place quickly. Luckily it has not happened for about a year now but it's something to watch out for.
Overall I would rate this car as a reliable, affordable car that is comfortable and easy to drive.
Summary: A good, reliable first car.
