Advantages: Cheap to run and insure, spacious for a car of its size
Disadvantages: A bit noisy on the motorway, boring interior
I purchased my Ford Ka in August 2008. It is an 04 reg, and only had 27,000 miles on the clock. It is the first car I have owned myself, but it is the fifth car I've driven (as I drove two while learning, and two of my mother's cars since passing my test) and apart from my mother's brand new Volkswagen Fox, it is the best car I've driven.
I am a 22 year old female and have had my full driving licence for four years. My Ka is a 1.3 Style, which puts it into insurance group 3, and fully comprehensive cover costs me just under £500 a year, which I think is very affordable. The Ka is also incredibly fuel efficient; on motorway journeys I tend to average around 45MPG.
Even though the Ka only has a 1.3l engine, it is very nippy and quick off the mark. I find it a lot of fun to drive. While it is a little noisy on the motorway, it handles very well, and has no trouble reaching motorway speeds.
The Ka is deceptively spacious, it looks tiny from the outside but is actually okay. Because there are only two seats in the back, there is a lot more space than you might think. There is also plenty of leg room, and the boot is a good size for a small car. The only downside of the interior is that it is a bit, well, boring.
I think the Ford Ka is a great car, especially if you're buying your first car, or you're a student. It's cheap to run and insure, and is pretty fast for something with such a small engine. Because of how long Ford made this particular model of Ka, even if you own one of the oldest models, it still looks modern.
Summary: Great, especially as a first car
