KA

Those of you who have read my ops before will be surprised to learn that I am now the proud owner of a Ford KA! Let's just say it was the biggest favour I've called in, in the history of calling in favours.

Anyway, it's an S reg KA2 in 'Copper Glow', but in laymens terms it's the exact one pictured on dooyoo!

There's very little I don't like about the KA. The looks are something you either love or hate and obviously I love it or I wouldn't have got one. I also adore the colour - which is odd because I hate red cars! This is a really cheeky red though as it changes with the light. First thing in the morning it's...wait... let me go check...rust red, later if the sun's out it will shine a bright sunny orange and tonight at dusk it will be cherry. Bless it.

Having had use only of a very clapped out old fiesta before - you could stick your arm through the passenger door, whilst closed; the aerial had long since fallen off and the speakers only worked if you slammed the door hard and turned them up full to break them in - it's only natural that I think the KA is the best thing since sliced bread.

Fuel consumption is amazing. Firstly it's unleaded, which is a bit cheaper to start with than what we were used to, but secondly, it just goes and goes on a single tank! Recently we got caught short with an empty tank and no petrol stations open, and incredibly we got another ten miles or so to a garage without running completely dry. I think the official measure is about 40mpg?

Inside is just the most beautiful interior I have ever seen in any car - incredibly simple and curved like a space capsule. Mine has a silver dash shaped like 'a quotation mark on its side' with a deep grey, fuss-free design on the passenger side. Everything is minimal and yet I can't think of a thing that's missing!

The radio is clear with loads of features like interrupt
ing when the news is on and searching only for 'drama' if you fancy that.

The driving position is perfect for smallish people. It doesn't clip your knees or make you feel claustrophobic but does encase you so you feel like you know where everything is and can easily control the lot. The seats are very comfy and can be moved up and down slightly as well as forward and back. The visor mirror is on the drivers side 'for the lady' which I find hilarious but a tad worrying for safety reasons!

A microchip in the key fob automatically disables the car, when you leave it.

Backing up is the only thing you need to train hard for. The rear window is so diddy that you almost have to unclip your belt and kneel on the seat sideways to get a good all-round view of who you're running down.

Due to the shape you are always a metre further away from where you think you just parked which is excellent for nervous parkers.

One word of warning though: Within the first two weeks of having the car, it kept getting huge scratches all down the bonnet and I thought it was being keyed by a kid in the area - then we saw the perpetrator - 'noodle' the cat next door. She was trying to jump on the car but couldn't find a flat bit and was slipping off, obviously holding on for dear like with sharp claws before inevitably dropping off the bonnet.

So, yes it is the best little car in the whole widest world - but do keep an eye out for naughty kittens!

Great op. I love the look of this car so it's good to hear it lives up to it's hype. Thanks.

Sounds a great ka, but I wouldn't swap my old polo for anything in the world! Could be cos it is my first car though!
