Advantages: Small & Nippy , cheap to run, looks different
Disadvantages: bodywork rusts badly, suspension bushes need changing each year, you will want something better in a few years
I bought my silver KA when it was six month old - it had been a ford demo car and had only done 6K miles. The first two or three years of ownership were pretty trouble free but be warned after this time thing start to go wrong. The first problem has been the body work - i noticed slight blisters in the paint work, when i scratched at the blister it came away along with the rusty metal underneath leaving a hole about the size of a 5p piece in the wing. (this was just after the 3 year warranty expired) this situation has got worse with more rust now coming through on both sides of the car. I have kept the car very clean and it is washed weekly but the rust seems to be happening inside and when working its way through to the outside. I've also had problems with the engine and power stearing cutting out - this only occurs as you are breaking to turn a corner. This is very scary and nearly caused several accidents - the dealers were also hopeless at finding out what caused the problem - in the end a local mechanic sorted it out - i think it was the fuel injection sensor which was clogged up. Overall i have loved my ka which mechanically has been brilliant, but i have now had enought. The welding that needed doing to pass the mot should not be needed on a car of this age and mileage. I dont think i would buy another ka and to be honest i dont think i would risk any other ford unless they guarantee the bodywork for more than three years.

aefra - 03/03/04 Welcome to dooyoo. What a shame. My Ford Ka2 is now 7 years old and my lifestyle means that during the winter it becomes and stays muddy etc. It hasn't been cleaned since last autumn. There is no rust and no problems mechanically. Have a read around and enjoy our friendly site. |
