Ford KA Zetec
Member Name: pennylane8
Advantages: Cheap to run, good for parking and city driving, has all the functions you need, looks stylish
Disadvantages: minor problems include stiff front seats, petrol cap is fiddly to lock, no volume control on wheel
I bought myself a Ford KA Zetec in 2009 and have had it for about a year and a half now. At the time of purchasing, I wanted a car which was small (I am only 5 foot and little so didn't want to look swamped by a bigger car) but also stylish. The new design is a big improvement on the old style KA, it looks like a mini fiesta and the interior looks great with it's black and white features. I bought the silver colour, which is great but gets dirty very easily, I find myself having to take it to the car wash every fortnight.
When sitting in the car it does feel like you are higher up than when you are sitting in any other car, as if you are sitting on a pillow or high seat haha...fine for me being short anyway. The gear stick is also at a higher position....something which I prefer because it makes it easy to rest your arm on the gear stick rather than reaching for it. The car is a very smooth drive, the car does not give as much as a quick start as the older KA, but it is still quite quick and nippy. It is great for parking and for city driving as it can squeeze into very small spaces easily.
The car has air con, central locking, power steering, heated rear window function and a cd / radio player. All useful functions to have.
The car is great for fuel consumption, I find it is quite cheap. It costs approx £40 to fill the car with unleaded petrol and I drive 110 miles a week, a full tank will last me a fortnight. The tax is also very cheap at £30 a year.
The only problem I have had with this car occurred on a very cold snowy day in February 2010. I drove to the shops, only to get out of my car and find the locks not working....when pressing the button on the fob / then trying it manually with the key...the car doors would just not lock. I called ford straight away who said they had received similar calls on the same day...and to leave the car for an hour or so or until the ice had thawed out and try it again. An hour or so later the doors did lock as normal. This problem has never occurred again even on other snowy days, i'm hoping it was just a one off, if this really is a fault then it's quite a big one.
Other minor disadvantages - The petrol cap is hard to lock and put in place correctly - very fiddly -, I would prefer it if the steering wheel had some volume / change channel functions on it to save reaching over to the cd / radio player, whenever someone sits in the rear of the car the front seats are quite stiff to move forwards when they are getting in and out.
Overall though I love this car, it's cheap to run, looks stylish, very easy to drive, good for easy parking & city driving, I would definitely recommend this car!
Summary: Great car, more pros than cons
