Advantages: Small, great looks, cheap to run

Disadvantages: Noisy engine, lack of compartment space

I bought an 09 plate Ford Ka Style to replace my ageing Citroen C2. I was after a like for like swap, and I really enjoy owning and driving a small car. I'd never really considered the Ford Ka as I wasn't keen on the old shape and I was worried about price. However, seeing the used price of the Ka I was soon converted. My parents have always owned Fords, and they still swear by them. I also had an ancient G reg Ford Escort when I first
passed and although it was never a great looking car, it was reliable. I loved it.

My new Ka is 'Cloud', which is really just silver. It looks great and although I would have preferred a blue one, I'm still really happy with it's exterior. It looks great too. It's modern, and the shape is unique but still instantly recognisable.

The interior is also quite modern with a white colour scheme where the controls for the radio and air con is. The gear stick is elevated to a higher position than what I am used to, however I soon found that this was a big improvement on the generic position of the gear stick. There is a cup holder just below it, and unlike in my
previous cars the cup and gear stick don't get in the way of each other. The seating position feels quite high up, but for me this isn't a problem. Some people may like to be adjust the height of the seat, but unfortunately this feature isn't present with this model. On the other hand, the steering wheel is adjustable. The boot is small, but I play trombone and my equipment fits in it just right. For someone who has no children and only a boyfriend to feed it really does suit our needs. Leg room in the front is good and unlike in the Citroen I can take passengers behind my seat without their legs being squashed! My only complaint about the inside is the lack of compartments. The glove box is quite small, so I can only really use of for storing my car charger and other stuff. Paper work needs to be tucked in the pouches on the back of the front seats.

The car runs on petrol and I was worried about running costs after driving a diesel, however it seems fairly economical and the weekly costs aren't too different. It runs at an average of 48pmg Tax is £30 as well, so again nice and cheap. The same goes for the insurance. It's easy to drive and runs well. It can take a while to speed up, but for me this isn't a problem. Handling is good and the ride is nice and smooth, it corners well but I do find the engine noise a little loud.

Overall, great for someone who only needs a small car.

Summary: Lovely little car, perfect for couples or the single woman
