Advantages: Reliable, economic, comfortable
Disadvantages: not all that exciting
Currently driving a 1.8TD Ghia model. It has electric sunroof, mirrors, heated front and rear screens, electric seats A/c and enough to keep you busy.
But thats only superficial stuff because it adds nothing to the driving experience. I always feel the Diesel engine hard work to drive when its cold, tough to engage in gear and struggles to gain the acceleration after having first start up in the morning unless you rev the nuts off it.
I always let the turbo wind down before i turn off the engine by leaving it idle for 30 secs to let the oil continue to feed the turbo to hopefully make life for it last a bit longer. The car's performance when up to temperature is not too bad and provides a little bit of excitment when the turbo kicks in at about 2500 rpm. Rev limits are not as high on diesels so it feels like it dies out pretty quickly. It has a pretty narrow power band and out of the power band (economic driving) its not all that exciting. Comfortable - yes, not really made for handling and feels like it, but the diesel engine has the torque to carry heavy loads easily enough and provide a good return in fuel economy.
I don't get anything worse than about 32 mpg and thats with a very heavy right foot but normal is about 45 ish.
All in all a reliable car and engine is tough and very resistant to problems if looked after, just replace the usual consumables and you should be fine
Summary: Car that should be used for the daily runaround IMO
