Advantages: Looks, Engine, Interior
Disadvantages: Water leakage
I bought my 1.4 LX MKII Orion just over 2 years ago and love it as much now as I did when I first laid eyes on it.......sounds like a love story??? The exterior of the car is in fantastic condition with the mercury grey metallic paint just adding to the look of it. The interior, considering it's now become a teenager is also fantastic with absolutely nothing wrong at all. After buying the car I started to have a few things which went wrong with it, namely the engine jerking then cutting out and finally starting again as if there was nothing wrong. This was solved however after replacing the carburettor 2 TIMES!! The only other problem I've had is that it leaked...............everywhere. The boot was getting soaked and the back floors and seats also. I took the seats out and, with torch in hand and my Dad hosing the car down, spotted the water coming in from three places. The back window, the rear light clusters and the rubber lug from the back bumper to the registration plate light. A few squirts of silicone here and there and the back window re-sealed has prevented this, (a handy tip for Orion owners as this has happened to many of them that I know of including my Dad's 1.6i Ghia he had a few years ago). The car itself has been maintained very well over the years but the engine hasn't. This was discovered after replacing the cam belt only to find the original one on it after doing 102000 miles. The engine is now in good condition and has 121000 on the clock but, hopefully, will be good enough for many more to come. Many cars on a G plate look out dated and in bad condition, the beauty of this is that it hasn't been out dated and looks a lot more modern than most. I know you become attached to your first car but this car is special, it will be a very sad day when I come to get rid of it which, touch wood, will be many happy motoring days away.
