Advantages: Cost free motoring
Disadvantages: none
I am 21 years old and have just purchased my 4th Orion. When i was 17 i bought a 1987 Orion 1.4 ghia. It was a 1.4 with weber carburettor and it came with a host of luxuries for my first car, such as electric windows and mirrors, rear headrests and an amplifier. After owning this car for one trouble free year, i part exchanged it in and bought a 1990 Orion 1.6i ghia. This engine was 1.6 and was equipped with electronic fuel injection, this again came with a host of luxuries as listed above. Then after another year i stepped into the world of modified orions when i bought an Orion 1.6 Turbo (engine from an RS) with full bodykit, 16" Tsw Venoms etc. This car again was a huge step up in power but it attracted the attention of boy racers, and the unwanted attention of thieves. After owning it for just 2 months it got broken into, the stereo stolen and £700 worth of damage done to the doors and boot. After owning it for just over a year and it got broken into for a second time i decide to sell it. This brings me to present time where i have just bought the very limited edition orion 1600E, this has every conceivable extra including full leather interior with walnut wood trim. After owning 3 different orions in over 3 years i can honestly say that not one of these cars has caused me any mechanical problems. I have owned my present orion for just over a month and touch walnut wood trim nothing has gone wrong yet. In my opinion this is the best car ever made. To any one who reads this if you are buying a used car you cant go far wrong with an Orion.

- 01/08/00 I do not understand peoples fascination with Orion's. Why you have bought 4 of them astounds me. For the money you must have spent on the boy racer model, surely you could have got a decent, easily insurable performance car from a company that makes decent performance cars. Why any one would want to spend lots of money modifying an Orion, or an Escort, which is technically what it is, is beyond me. And for what, to drive round and round your local high street with your trophy girlfriends sat dumb in the passenger seat.
There are much better cars to spend your money on, you are young so you are going to think that every car is great when you drive it, I thought my first car, a Yugo 55A, was good!
Wake up and stop chucking money away on old Fords. Okay the spec list may be okay, but don't forget it has never been real Walnut in Fords, it has always been Formica, remember that.. |
