Advantages: Reliable, good handling, fun to drive, spacious, well equipped

Disadvantages: Not much image, even bland, an old mans car??

I drove one of these reliable masterpieces from 2003-2005. It was a year 2000 model in a mid green metallic colour, with cream velour interior.

Many of my friends used to mock me, that its an old mans car, especially with the cream interior. I disagree, its a lot more airy and optimistic than the 'coal mine' black you get in most cars these days. Also a lot cooler in the summer and doesnt show dust and dirt as much as black. The styling is fairly plain, although from many angles, there is an air of Audi A4, especially the boot lid.

This Swindon built Accord is lovely to drive. Light positive controls, good handling and ride from the double wishbone suspension. The VTEC engines with variable valve timing are eager, revvy and refined.

Mine was a 4 speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox model. The shifts were smooth and quiet, and you could switch gears with the lever is you felt sporty! The fuel economy an the automatic models isnt as good as a manual, so stick with a manual if you can. Also towards the end of my ownership, the gearbox began to whine when slowing down, maybe nothing, or an expensive repair bill??

The SE model is well equipped with aircon, CD player, remote locking and Cruise control. On the motorway with the cruise control on, you could drive around the world, its effortless!

Check out these cars on www.autotrader.co.uk they are now cheap to buy used, and as long as they have been serviced and had the cambelt changed at 70000 miles, they will go on for ever. Honda dealers are not cheap, neither are Honda parts, but you shouldn't need either very often. Honda dealers I experienced were very efficient and polite though.

To conclude, it was a pleasure to drive, never missed a beat, and is now a used car bargain, much more reliable than most.

Summary: Now a used family car bargain, more reliable than most other makes.
