There was plenty of room up front but not a huge amount in the back compared with, say, a Focus, or a new Civic come to that. The handling was quite good - the car would stick to its line through bends, but it was difficult to judge what the front wheels were doing due to the lack of feel from the steering described above. Why is it that Civics are labelled cars for old people, but the equivalent Rover 400 or 45 is not seen that way? I don't know, but I think it's daft. After all, my Civic was a paragon of reliability and several friends' 400s suffered problem after problem. Mind you, at 23 I probably lowered the average owners' age by 20 years! I bought the car from the local Honda agent in November 2000, when it was two-and-a-half years old. I got a good deal due to a contact who informed me this particular car had sat on the forecourt for three months, and after this time could only be sold to the trade.
