Advantages: Reversing and turning
Disadvantages: Appearance and power
I was given my mum's atoz shortly after passing my driving test back in June 2008. After being promised a car for years, it was not what I had had in mind, and although grateful, I was somewhat disappointed. Being 18, it is not considered fasionable or cool, and the taunts I've had from my peers are huge! 'Mini-bus', 'shed on wheels' and 'space ship' are all terms that have bene sued to describe it. My friends even duck down when we drive past people we know, for fear of embarassment. I as the driver however, cannot avoid this, especially with the height of the atoz (which although at times is quie useful, it does make you stick out like a sore thumb).
I do find the car quite easy to drive. The pedals are not stiff at all and the gear stick is generally easy to move into gear (though pushing it into 2 can sometimes be tricky as it sticks). The one thing that tends to niggle me, is that the atoz takes forever to speed up. Traffic on certain lanes round where I live mean that I have to stay on the outside lane, but of course, the car takes about 30 seconds to get anywhere near 60 which is 10mph less than the speed most cars go (this is all legal by the way!). Other motorists are not always best pleased by this, so I tend to keep it in gear 3 on such roads for longer than I'd like!
Suspension is also very little. Bumps are a nightmare and you can feel the car jumping into the air! It's lack of power means that going up heels, especially ones with bumps on them is a nightmare! The atoz can take 30mph at gear 5, but I have to keep her in 3 and at 30mph to stand a chance of egtting up such heels and over bumps on them.
The inside is quite plasticy. A lot of it looks cheap and quite tacky. Though I do find the seats comfortable and find that driving does not get uncomfortable.
A positive about the atoz is it's ability to turn exrtemely tight. I've never had problems with turning in small spaces and it does so like a dream. Reversing is also relatively simple, and although it is cosmetically a flaw, it's flat back means I know EXACTLY how far back I am, which is always nice!
It does have it's advantages, but overall I think this car is more suited to an elderly person as it's appearance, height and drivability I believe (and so do ALL my friends) would suit them more than a teenager. I am embarassed it! And although I enjoy driving my atoz, I'd rather it looked a lot more like a Clio or Ka!
Summary: Better for grandparents than grandkids!
